MyMathLab Pros and Cons

Whenever you buy a new product, you always think about the pros and cons. There are positives and negatives to everything on the market, and knowing what those are before you make your purchase can help you decide whether the price is worth it.

However, if you are a student and your classes require you to purchase MyMathLab, then you won’t have much of a choice. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, especially when you take a closer look at all of the pros that come with using this educational tool.

Pros

Having multiple tools at your fingertips can make finishing your homework and studying for tests much easier. With multiple options to choose from and different ways to look at each problem for help, you get a customized experience that feels like you have a personal tutor anytime you need it.

This will help those who have trouble with mathematics figure out what they’re doing wrong and what they can fix to get a higher grade. Also, with the opportunity to ask your professor for help with the toughest problems, you will have an easier time getting through harder sections.

Another pro is that you have everything you need, all in one place. This is especially great for students who are extremely busy or have trouble staying organized. Instead of keeping dozens of papers for each class, your maths homework, e-textbook, and educational assistance are all on your laptop or computer.

This makes it much easier to find what you need for the class, and it makes finding certain sections of the book easier as well. Instead of flipping through hundreds of pages, you just type in the problem or topic you’re looking for and it takes you right to it.

Also, this program also offers some help with giving you simpler problems. Although you may lose some points by doing this, you can get rid of problems with exceptionally difficult numbers to work with by attempting and failing the question. It will then move on to another one with different numbers that may be more manageable to work with.

Cons

One of the cons that may keep some students from liking this system is the fact that you can’t get it for less than the original price. Buying used options isn’t possible with an e-text because it doesn’t get torn or stained like pages of a book.

For students that buy textbooks ahead of time for the lowest price possible, or who only stick with used copies with some damage to keep costs low, this may be frustrating. Also, because of this, you can’t turn around and sell it to help recoup some of your money. Although the benefits are worth the price, it can still be high for students on a tight budget.

The other major con of MyMathLab is the fact that the answers can sometimes have some small errors. The system can sometimes be too vague with decimal answers by not being clear about where to round the number to.

Also, the answers are pretty strict, and using the right x for scientific notation can get you an incorrect answer even though the numbers are all the same. However, these are fairly rare occurrences and shouldn’t be a huge problem when using the system.
