Oregon House Bill 3260
The Oregon House Health Care Committee will soon consider a study of health care financing options. HB 3260 is sponsored by state Representatives Michael Dembrow and Jennifer Williamson and by Senators Chip Shields and Laurie Monnes Anderson.

On April 5th (Friday) at 1 p.m. in Hearing Room D, the Health Care Committee of the Oregon House of Representatives will hold a hearing on the bill which, if passed, would require the Oregon Health Authority to conduct a study comparing at least four methods for financing health care -- and then recommend the best system for financing universal health care in Oregon.

Understanding Trade, our Local Economy and WALMART

S O U T H E R N * O R E G O N * J O B S * W I T H * J U S T I C E, 02-04-2012 - 00:56

THE SOUTHERN OREGON WALMART CAMPAIGN
As Walmart celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we will paint the true story of Walmart and how they undermine our values and re-write the rules of our society. We have plenty of fodder here in Southern Oregon! Walmart continues to be prolific with stores in Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Talent, Eagle Point and now being constructed is the monstrous new eyesore, the Walmart superstore going up near the South Medford interchange of Interstate-5.

NEW LOOK — OLD CAMPAIGN
Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice is itching to organize and involve area activists in taking a new look at an old campaign. We the 99% are ready to focus on the 1% who have stolen our democracy. There is no better place to start than Walmart. Look at this new website which shows us the Walmart — 1% connection:  http://www.jwj.org/blog/1-behind-walmart

SOJwJ is looking for a few hard-core-planners who are ready to roll up sleeves and get to work. We will creatively put together a big educational lesson plan for Southern Oregon: "Understanding Trade, our Local Economy and WALMART." Serious inquiries only!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: Alternative

Gary Guy, 02-02-2012 - 02:36

Predictable lamestream media reviewers had little to say about how The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is rife with current political, sociological, technological and religious implications. The movie is about a 24-year-old, gothic-punk-looking, cyberspace hacker, with an issue with men who have histories or sexual or violent predation. She is on a mission to right the world of a few rapists and killers. This is not a standard movie review. Plenty reviews already exist on the Internet for you to get the gist of the story and its characters. This critique is strictly in regards to the movie and is more about interesting political and social commentary in relation to the movie and some of its reviews.

Giving Voice to Ohio Workers is a Win for All Workers

S E C R E T A R Y * O F * L A B O R, 11-11-2011 - 05:34

* * * Secretary Solis * * * This victory is for all workers! In Southern Oregon early this year We Stood Up in solidarity with Wisconsin workers when they were under attack. Strong public rallies in both Medford and Ashland were consistent with a working class message of solidarity. People get it. We are the 99%. We will build a strong working class—Wes Brain

During an Ohio labor referendum Tuesday, a majority of voters rejected a state law that would have limited the collective bargaining rights of thousands of teachers, firefighters and police officers. "Ohio has made it clear: these dedicated public servants still need a seat at the table to demand fairness, dignity and respect — especially in tough economic times. Through their unions, they have a voice in their workplace, in their future and, most importantly, in our future," said Secretary Labor Hilda Solis in a statement.

Bucky Larson As Fairytale: An Alternative Mov

Jeffery James, 18-09-2011 - 20:52

Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star is, actually at times, a funny movie—although it is lewd, crude and cruel. Unlike most of today’s pornography it does have a storyline, some character development, and it is, at least to some extent, a sophisticated movie, even if it is awkwardly presuming about social acceptance. The acting is surprisingly good—especially Nick Swardson’s Bucky, the buck-toothed pornstar-want-to-be, with his fate of “dinky” penis but equally winsome, that is handsome, personality. But this movie is not about an individual so much as it is about the porn industry and its influence on sexual manhood. It is not a particularly good movie and brings to light so social issues worthy of consideration—topics of this essay.

A vote on how political contributions are disclosed is expected at today’s annual shareholders’ meeting.

Things to consider for New Year's Resolutions

Message from Nancie & Mark/Good Grief America, 31-12-2010 - 14:48

The good news is that there was sustainable life on this planet before this meltdown and we have the opportunity to look at and commit to redefining who we are, what is important to us and how we can rebuild our Main Streets in America. A few things to consider in your new years resolutions are:

1) Where can I volunteer to make a difference to rebuild my community using my special talents and skills?
2) What new industries will be needed in our communities? What skills do I need to develop?
3) How can I change my buying habits to buy local, recylced and sustainable?
4) How can I assist others in rebuilding our comunities?
5) How can my voice be heard for a better place to live?
6) What are the core values that are really important to me and how do I stay focused on these?

Did too many people drink the kool-aid?--scared to death in southern oregon...

READ THE WARNING from "TAX FAIRNESS OREGON"  http://www.taxfairnessoregon.org

12/6/10 from Tax Fairness Oregon--As of today, the Obama administration and congressional Republicans are close to striking a deal on tax cuts  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/06/obama-tax-cut-compromise_n_792776.html Obama is conceding extension of the Bush-era tax cuts in their entirety for two years, in exchange for extending unemployment insurance for 13 months. In addition, the package would include a 2% reduction in payroll taxes on the employee side, tax breaks for families and students, allowing businesses to write off 100% of the cost of equipment purchases and setting the estate tax at 35% with a $5 million exemption.

Single-Payer Health Insurance for Oregon

By Rep. Michael Dembrow, 06-12-2010 - 01:59

Oregon State Can Lead! Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice is proud to be a state-wide partner to work for real healthcare reform. Just listen to Rep. Michael Dembrow who is championing statewide legislation for Single Payer in Oregon. The following came from Blue Oregon  http://www.blueoregon.com

State of Oregon Rep. Michael Dembrow: One of the real problems with the Federal reform process was that advocates of single payer were never allowed a seat at the table. For reasons of politics and influence and strategy it was ruled out before it was even considered. That’s wrong, it’s bad government, and we need to try to make it right.

I would like to see Oregon taking steps to move in this direction. So I’ve partnered with a coalition of single payer advocates--Health Care for All Oregon, Physicians for a National Health Program, Jobs with Justice, and the Oregon League of Women Voters—to develop The Affordable Health Care for All Oregonians Act for the 2011 legislative session. To see the concepts behind the bill, go to the Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO) website.  http://www.healthcareforalloregon.org/oregon/affordable-health-care-for-all-oregon-act-draft/ Senator Chip Shields has committed to introduce the bill on the Senate side, and a number of my legislative colleagues have indicated interest in co-sponsoring.
