Occupation with Conviction, Occupying Congressional Representative Greg Walden

* I N D E P E N D E N T * M E D I A *, 06-12-2011 - 14:59

Deb & Pete declaring occupation Medford, Oregon 12/5/11-
Occupation of the Second Congressional District in Oregon was a smashing success Monday. On a foggy frozen day, the sun broke mid-morning in Medford and even though the temperature stayed in the thirties 99 percent folk like you and me gathered. We occupied downtown Vogel Plaza and we occupied our Congressional District office, too. We all showed up to ask one unified question: W H E R E ' S * W A L D E N ?

The photos were all shot at Monday's Where's Walden? Occupation Rally downtown in Vogel plaza, or 1/2 block away at Representative Greg Walden's Medford field office. Occupation of the office landed six arrests for trespass. Pictures show support activities on the sidewalk out front, while other shots are inside Walden's office where occupiers sat-in from 11am until after 6pm refusing to leave unless Congressman Walden agreed to start having regular public town hall meetings around the district, something that he refuses to do. The sit-in act of civil disobedience ended with the six arrests by the Medford City police. There are photos of each arrestee to end this photo memory.

It was an amazing day. Smashingly successful and peaceful too! Keep on reading to learn about other Walden Occupiers around Oregon's Second Congressional District. Eight were arrested in Bend about the very same time as the Medford Six.

OCCUPY EUREKA: Police beating of nonviolent protestors

Nov 14, 2011, for immediate release

Counties worsening vendetta against 'Occupy' Eureka

In this long night before the dawn of America's awakening, cops again raided the 'Occupy' Eureka encampment, arresting some 20 people and tearing apart their newest Action Encampment, rebuilt only 3 days ago before a crowd on Veterans Day in honoring Scott Olsen, Iraq vet, a victim of cop brutality in Oakland's Occupation. This had been a great collective effort in also establishing an outreach center and library as part of its ongoing demonstrations after the first camp had been destroyed days earlier.

Giving Voice to Ohio Workers is a Win for All Workers

S E C R E T A R Y * O F * L A B O R, 11-11-2011 - 05:34

* * * Secretary Solis * * * This victory is for all workers! In Southern Oregon early this year We Stood Up in solidarity with Wisconsin workers when they were under attack. Strong public rallies in both Medford and Ashland were consistent with a working class message of solidarity. People get it. We are the 99%. We will build a strong working class—Wes Brain

During an Ohio labor referendum Tuesday, a majority of voters rejected a state law that would have limited the collective bargaining rights of thousands of teachers, firefighters and police officers. "Ohio has made it clear: these dedicated public servants still need a seat at the table to demand fairness, dignity and respect — especially in tough economic times. Through their unions, they have a voice in their workplace, in their future and, most importantly, in our future," said Secretary Labor Hilda Solis in a statement.

Oakland General Strike a Success

Steven Argue, 07-11-2011 - 04:15

With over 50,000 people protesting in the street in three major protests through the course of the day, massive labor participation, and a shut down of the Port of Oakland, there is no question that the general strike was a success. Yet the corporate media is now blowing up the importance of a few acts of vandalism by protesters and agent provocateurs. This is a blatant attempt divert attention from a successful working class action.

Stop the AFP's red-baiting and intimidation a

Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza, 30-09-2011 - 09:48

Since 2001, the Philippine government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have been trying, but have so far failed, to stop us and our parties from representing the marginalized and underrepresented sectors in Congress. Now that we are running for the Senate, they are becoming more desperate in trying to prevent us from serving our people and pursuing the politics of change.

Stop the machine! Create a New World!

Southern Oregon, 28-09-2011 - 13:10

STOP THE MACHINE! CREATE A NEW WORLD!
CALL TO ACTION!
OCTOBER 6TH
DOWNTOWN PLAZA IN ASHLAND, OREGON

October 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. On October 6, 2011, we will stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Washington, D.C., where a huge rally will be taking place. We stand with them for a better world, for a world which refuses to sit in drugged silence as the system around it perpetuates oppression and the illegal wars that impose it. We will stand together against economic exploitation and demand that our economy meets human needs instead of Wall Street profits.

For too long we have stood idly by, hiding our faces from the suffering around us, hoping that it will disappear on its own or that some mythical Other will save us from our own society. It is time for us to wake up, to wake up to the fact that we create the substance of our society and that against the determined will of the people nothing can stand; we must take courage and act. Neither time nor a different president will heal the wounds in our world; only we the people can. We are up for the task. Together we can create the future we envision of peace, justice and equality.

Free Troy Davis! There’s No Justice in the Ca

Steven Argue, 20-09-2011 - 06:29

[Troy Davis, Photo from the so-called "Department of Corrections"] Troy Davis was sentenced to death in 1991 for the killing of an off-duty Savannah policeman. Davis was found “guilty” based on dubious accounts that he confessed to the killing and questionable “eyewitness” identifications that included false eyewitness testimony coerced by the cops. Seven of the prosecution’s nine “eyewitnesses” have since recanted. The only holdouts are one man who may be the actual killer and another who initially denied being able to identify the shooter only to pin it on Davis two years later. Three of the eyewitnesses say their testimony was coerced by the police. New eyewitnesses have come forth identifying another suspect.

Communique from the Buenos Aires Support Netw

Support Network, Buenos Aires, 19-09-2011 - 14:16

A la Calle! We never forget our imprisoned comrades. We don’t mystify our respect for them but neither are we indifferent to their everyday experience. Solidarity is not, as has been demonstrated on several occasions, just a beautiful word or a slogan, but a practice inseparable from our struggle. This can be expressed in many diverse ways, and there are moments when an idea takes shape with forcefulness and continuity. Given the delicate situation (in court and in prison) that faces our comrades Juan Aliste Vega, Marcelo Villarroel Sepúlveda, and Freddy Fuentevilla Saa, who are currently held captive in prisons of the Chilean state, several individuals from Buenos Aires have decided to form a new support network in order to provide updates and disseminate information about their situation, as well as hopefully assisting in their return to the streets.
