On April 5th (Friday) at 1 p.m. in Hearing Room D, the Health Care Committee of the Oregon House of Representatives will hold a hearing on the bill which, if passed, would require the Oregon Health Authority to conduct a study comparing at least four methods for financing health care -- and then recommend the best system for financing universal health care in Oregon.

Freedom for Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3?
Katti Gray, The Root (reprinted by A3 News), 05-02-2013 - 00:37
After four decades of solitary confinement in the nation's most populated maximum-security prison -- and one of its most historically brutal -- a member of the internationally known "Angola 3" has reasonable cause to expect that he will soon be released, his attorneys and supporters say. The request to set free Albert Woodfox, 65, is being heard by the same federal judge who in 2008 ordered that Woodfox be released, a ruling that Louisiana prosecutors successfully appealed and blocked.

Medea Benjamin's keynote address at the Peace House 30th anniversary celebration
Allen Hallmark, 22-10-2012 - 15:23
An abridged introduction from author Allen Hallmark follows...
Today I decided to share an article about Medea Benjamin's speech last Friday evening (Nov. 19, 2012). I believe that what she had to say about Pakistan and drone warfare is important enough to ask you to consider reading this longish article, which I composed this morning from my notes. Thanks.
Medea Benjamin is one of the co-founders of CodePink and Global Exchange and has been a powerful advocate for peace and economic and social justice for the past 30 years. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with other women in 2005 and was the 2010 recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Prize.
Medea is just back from Pakistan where she was a leader of a delegation of peace and justice advocates who went there to show Pakistanis that there are many Americans who want the U.S. to stop killing Pakistani civilians with drone attacks. She received the Marjorie Kellogg National Peacemaker Award at the Peace House 30th Anniversary Dinner at Southern Oregon University on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2012. Ms. Benjamin’s most recent book, Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control, was published earlier this year and informed the speech she gave at the Peace House dinner. Keep reading to see my summary of her speech...

Massacre of striking miners in South Africa
PCInt, 21-08-2012 - 08:42
On July 18 the world bourgeoisie celebrated “Mandela Day”, established internationally by the UN in November 2009 under the sign of peace, freedom, reconciliation, etc.
In South Africa, more than 12 million children sang hymns to Mandela before going to class, the whole population was called upon to devote 67 minutes of their time (corresponding to 67 years of Mandela’s activism) to helping others. The IMATU Union requested that this day where they celebrate “the 67 years of his life Mandela has given for the rights of humanity, equality, justice and democracy enjoyed today by all South Africans” become a public holiday, so that individuals can give much more than 67 minutes to useful causes....
