Sneaky Greg Walden Townhall Comes on July 3rd - Brings Protest and Testimony
****************************************************************
Medford peace group to protest Walden’s “town hall” meeting
CPJ once again asks the time-honored question: “Where’s Walden?”
Citizens for Peace & Justice will rally outside the Jackson County Courthouse Auditorium on Oakdale in Medford from 10 to 10:30 am next Tuesday, July 3rd, before Rep. Greg Walden, R-OR, begins his “town hall” meeting to protest its inadequacies.
The reason for the protest is that Walden responded to calls for a town hall meeting on the cost of the Iraq War to Oregon by scheduling a one-hour meeting from 10:30 to 11:30 am on a weekday when few working people can attend. He also scheduled a similar meeting in Grants Pass for 1:30 pm to give him a good excuse for the Medford meeting not to run long.

"Let's keep our Library System intact"--Anne Billeter
Anne Billeter's Letter to the Editor gets ink on the Rogue IMC (just push print), 06-06-2007 - 00:16
The taxpayers have said “No” to additional taxes. Let’s not dismantle a great library system until all of the options have been considered. Let’s not blame the library for a county funding crisis. Let’s hear from the County’s Blue Ribbon Committee. Let’s learn about all of the possibilities and find a way to keep our library system intact. We owe it to ourselves, to our children, and to our grandchildren. Our libraries were vital and vibrant participants in our communities, contributors to our cultural and economic wealth, a symptom of wellness we can ill afford to lose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anne Billeter was Jackson County Library Manager of Children’s and Young Adult Services and of the South Region branches (Ashland, Phoenix, and Talent).
"Drown it in a bathtub!" - The Jackson Co. Library System
Media Watch Dawg, 28-05-2007 - 11:02
CLASSIC BY-THE-BOOK PRIVATIZATION PREYS ON JACKSON COUNTY, OREGON
Grover Norquist is the right wing mover and shaker who is famous for his widely quoted comment that he wants to shrink government "down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."
Corporate newspaper whore, the Medford Mail Tribune produced its Saturday 5/26/07 edition as a HUGE front page advertisement for LSSI. LSSI is the company that wants to run OUR Jackson County Library System. The Mail Tribune's "news" is a sham as this smoke and mirrors' story could just as easily have been written by Grover Norquist himself.
Here is the story, front page above the fold and with lots of big black ink. Read it and weep.
Outside contractor for libraries?
In possible alternative, Maryland firm would run operations
Refuting the Deafs: Chavism and Anarchism...
El Libertario's editorial staff, 20-05-2007 - 11:28
* From the publishers of El Libertario goes our reply to the habitual expressions that the coarse right or the easy-going left used to attribute us; the same left that, inside and outside of Venezuela allows that the mirage of the Chávez pseudo-revolution impressed them. We could and would like to say very much more about this subject, however currently here there is the essential and concise information about our point of view that, even when it was expressed several times it does not implies that it does not have to be repeated.
Oregon passes House Joint Memorial on Iraq
State Representative District 5 Peter Buckley, 22-03-2007 - 14:29
On Tuesday of this week, I voted on the behalf of the people of our district to insist that Congress act to end our country’s occupation of Iraq. The vote was 33 to 25 to approve. The text of House Joint Memorial 9, which I co- sponsored with many of my colleagues in the Oregon House, can be found below.
We have paid and we continue to pay a terrible price for what I believe to be an unnecessary and immoral war. I’m grateful that my colleagues have joined in the effort to send Oregon’s message to Washington, DC, and I stand with my colleagues in our determination to do everything in our power to care for the women and men who have fought this war when they are at long last returned to us.
Thanks & Onward,
Rep. Peter Buckley
Future Uncertain for Internet Radio
Bill Goldsmith, 04-03-2007 - 20:07
These concerns about internet radio are on the minds of a number of folks who work with KSKQ our lpfm radio station in Ashland which currently is streaming over the internet.
http://www.kskq.org A special thanks to Hal Anthony from Hugo who posted this message below (and thnx, Hal for using Rogue Indymedia!)--rogue imc volunteer
http://www.radioparadise.com/index.php
The US Copyright Office has released their new set of rates for the
payment of royalties by Internet Radio, and they ignored all of the facts
presented by webcasters (including RP) and gave the record industry
exactly what they asked for: royalty rates so high that they will put RP
and every other independent webcaster out of business. See Kurt Hanson's
newsletter for 3/2/07 for the details on how the rates work and what they
will mean to stations like RP.
Brazil: The "brake" is COPOM.
Bernardo Kucinski, 28-02-2007 - 13:01
The logic of the the Growth Acceleration Program opposes classic economists as Michael Kalecki and John Keynes. The GAP that does not contain a expansionist monetary policy is not the GAP, is the anti-GAP, as, by the way, the last act of the Copom made clear.
