Oregon House Bill 3260
The Oregon House Health Care Committee will soon consider a study of health care financing options. HB 3260 is sponsored by state Representatives Michael Dembrow and Jennifer Williamson and by Senators Chip Shields and Laurie Monnes Anderson.
On April 5th (Friday) at 1 p.m. in Hearing Room D, the Health Care Committee of the Oregon House of Representatives will hold a hearing on the bill which, if passed, would require the Oregon Health Authority to conduct a study comparing at least four methods for financing health care -- and then recommend the best system for financing universal health care in Oregon.

Freedom for Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3?
Katti Gray, The Root (reprinted by A3 News), 05-02-2013 - 00:37
After four decades of solitary confinement in the nation's most populated maximum-security prison -- and one of its most historically brutal -- a member of the internationally known "Angola 3" has reasonable cause to expect that he will soon be released, his attorneys and supporters say. The request to set free Albert Woodfox, 65, is being heard by the same federal judge who in 2008 ordered that Woodfox be released, a ruling that Louisiana prosecutors successfully appealed and blocked.

Congress Needs to Extend Emergency Unemployment Insurance - Now
Chuck Sheketoff--Oregon Center for Public Policy, 31-12-2012 - 04:12
THIS IS A STORY FOR ALL OREGON -- Here in Southern Oregon ordinary working people and their families are suffering—rogue valley independent media center volunteer
"CONGRESS NEEDS TO EXTEND EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE - NOW"—by Chuck Sheketoff
Tens of thousands of unemployed Oregonians need Congress to act now to extend Emergency Unemployment Insurance.
Emergency unemployment compensation is helping 29,240 Oregonians who, despite looking for over 26 weeks, have not been hired. That is about the number (29,600) of Oregonians OCPP estimates will abruptly lose benefits on December 29 if Congress does not act to extend the program, reducing the number receiving unemployment compensation support of any kind by a third.
The disappearance of this safety net, however, will have an even wider impact. Also affected will be those who will exhaust their 26 weeks of state benefits after December 29. OCPP estimates that about 12,100 Oregon workers will be in this situation during just the first three months of 2013

RRAW, Rogue Residents Against Walmart is in the process of possibly changing our name to RRAWWR - Rogue Residents Against Walmart Worker Retaliation.
RRAWWR asserts that most of the workers get so few hours that they qualify for food stamps, get no health or pension benefits until they have been with the corporation so many years, and that the Walton family has accumulated as much wealth as nearly half the US population by depriving their workers of a living.

Medea Benjamin's keynote address at the Peace House 30th anniversary celebration
Allen Hallmark, 22-10-2012 - 15:23
An abridged introduction from author Allen Hallmark follows...
Today I decided to share an article about Medea Benjamin's speech last Friday evening (Nov. 19, 2012). I believe that what she had to say about Pakistan and drone warfare is important enough to ask you to consider reading this longish article, which I composed this morning from my notes. Thanks.
Medea Benjamin is one of the co-founders of CodePink and Global Exchange and has been a powerful advocate for peace and economic and social justice for the past 30 years. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with other women in 2005 and was the 2010 recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Prize.
Medea is just back from Pakistan where she was a leader of a delegation of peace and justice advocates who went there to show Pakistanis that there are many Americans who want the U.S. to stop killing Pakistani civilians with drone attacks. She received the Marjorie Kellogg National Peacemaker Award at the Peace House 30th Anniversary Dinner at Southern Oregon University on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2012. Ms. Benjamin’s most recent book, Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control, was published earlier this year and informed the speech she gave at the Peace House dinner. Keep reading to see my summary of her speech...

Undignified Corporate Takeover ➡ Ashland Community Hospital
S T O P * D I G N I T Y * H E A L T H, 19-10-2012 - 20:55
Here is the latest on the "Corporate Takeover" in (so-called) progressive Ashland, Oregon!
Following you will find a well written update on how things stand regarding the current takeover of our community hospital. Our city council is run by the chamber of commerce and they line up time and time again to do the bidding for the 1%. The privatization of what we locally have owned continues and it hurts to see this happening not just here, but everywhere.
