Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice urges Walmart to be transparent about its political and charitable giving. New political reports shows difference between what Walmart says and where it gives.

Medford, Oregon— In response to new research released this week by Walmart Watch about the company’s political contributions, elected officials have been asked to urge Walmart to be transparent about its political and charitable giving. A vote on how political contributions are disclosed is expected at today’s annual shareholders’ meeting.

This Medford Walmart warning has a history. State Representative Peter Buckley’s concerns about Walmart expanding with a South Medford supercenter go back to 2005 with this video warning  http://rogueimc.org/media/2005/11/5580.mov (11-10-05 press conference Central Point, OR).

However, I'm NOT going to let this opportunity pass me by without doing SOMETHING! I hope you'll spread this message to other coworkers, labor activists, and Oregon citizens who rely on the continuation of our services...

flying to die I am crying, because of the future that waits to my people, I am crying for the hundreds of children who roam the city streets aimlessly with the faces of hunger, with empty stomachs, staring the showcases full of shiny malls.

$ave America: Stop the War$ -- Action in Medford, OR 3.19.11

STANDING FOR PEACE EIGHT YEARS LATER, 21-03-2011 - 07:01

Banner in median on Barnett 3/19/11 Medford, Oregon--VISIBILITY was the word for this day of reckoning. For eight years we have marched and we have rallied. We have stood in black and in some rallies we have sported our colors. We have sung, we have laughed and we have cried...

On March 19, 2011 we were visible... $ave America: Stop the War$ is being "branded" into the souls of each and every person in our country as we watch our schools crumble and so many other public institutions crack and break apart.

Billboards, banner hangs, and counter recruitment on the eighth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq were very visible in Medford, Oregon.

Most remarkable was the fantastic local news coverage from KOBI channel 5 television, our area's NBC affiliate. CP&J's Ruth Dailey, Daniel Guy, and Kent Clinkinbeard spoke eloquently about the Costs of War. Below read Ruth Dailey's report.

STOP Korean FTA! This is terrific inspiration for Southern Oregonians who plan to attend Senator Wyden's Town Hall 10AM, 1/19/11 at the Medford City Hall...

"I went to the town hall on friday night. I was lucky to even get to ask a question, but I did get to ask one and made some good points on Free Trade. I hope Sen. Wyden will consider the mood of this crowd when he formulates his position on the Korean Free Trade proposal....he said he is undecided on the subject. I logged some thoughts on the evening......"--Bruce Dennis

Things to consider for New Year's Resolutions

Message from Nancie & Mark/Good Grief America, 31-12-2010 - 14:48

The good news is that there was sustainable life on this planet before this meltdown and we have the opportunity to look at and commit to redefining who we are, what is important to us and how we can rebuild our Main Streets in America. A few things to consider in your new years resolutions are:

1) Where can I volunteer to make a difference to rebuild my community using my special talents and skills?
2) What new industries will be needed in our communities? What skills do I need to develop?
3) How can I change my buying habits to buy local, recylced and sustainable?
4) How can I assist others in rebuilding our comunities?
5) How can my voice be heard for a better place to live?
6) What are the core values that are really important to me and how do I stay focused on these?

Obama's Tax Cut Deal Absolutely Unacceptable

TAX FAIRNESS OREGON, 07-12-2010 - 04:40

WARNING: COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE DEAL Guaranteeing the continued downward slide towards third world banana republic status... Obama and all his "liberal supporters" are greasing the skids for continued long term poverty rates for a growing population. Did too many people drink the kool-aid?--scared to death in southern oregon...

READ THE WARNING from "TAX FAIRNESS OREGON"  http://www.taxfairnessoregon.org

12/6/10 from Tax Fairness Oregon--As of today, the Obama administration and congressional Republicans are close to striking a deal on tax cuts  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/06/obama-tax-cut-compromise_n_792776.html Obama is conceding extension of the Bush-era tax cuts in their entirety for two years, in exchange for extending unemployment insurance for 13 months. In addition, the package would include a 2% reduction in payroll taxes on the employee side, tax breaks for families and students, allowing businesses to write off 100% of the cost of equipment purchases and setting the estate tax at 35% with a $5 million exemption.

Single-Payer Health Insurance for Oregon

By Rep. Michael Dembrow, 06-12-2010 - 01:59

Oregon State Can Lead! Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice is proud to be a state-wide partner to work for real healthcare reform. Just listen to Rep. Michael Dembrow who is championing statewide legislation for Single Payer in Oregon. The following came from Blue Oregon  http://www.blueoregon.com

State of Oregon Rep. Michael Dembrow: One of the real problems with the Federal reform process was that advocates of single payer were never allowed a seat at the table. For reasons of politics and influence and strategy it was ruled out before it was even considered. That’s wrong, it’s bad government, and we need to try to make it right.

I would like to see Oregon taking steps to move in this direction. So I’ve partnered with a coalition of single payer advocates--Health Care for All Oregon, Physicians for a National Health Program, Jobs with Justice, and the Oregon League of Women Voters—to develop The Affordable Health Care for All Oregonians Act for the 2011 legislative session. To see the concepts behind the bill, go to the Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO) website.  http://www.healthcareforalloregon.org/oregon/affordable-health-care-for-all-oregon-act-draft/ Senator Chip Shields has committed to introduce the bill on the Senate side, and a number of my legislative colleagues have indicated interest in co-sponsoring.
