Southern Oregon's MOVE YOUR MONEY campaign debuted on the main drag during Ashland's Fourth of July parade. The parade entry from Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice (SOJwJ) included the Jefferson State Rollers. The helpful swarm of female roller derby skaters blasted Ashland with thousands of tri-fold Move Your Money brochures which rank regional banks and credit unions with the big Wall Street banks. Any guess which work best for the local economy?
People want to support local economic development and are tired of Wall Street excesses that have crippled our country. Move Your Money is a campaign to move money away from the big greedy Wall Street Banks and put the bucks where they will do the most good right here at home.

MCRD takes Walmart to the OR Supreme Court

Today legal history was made at North Medford High School, the venue where the Oregon Supreme Court heard the appeal of Medford Citizens for Responsible Development (MCRD), following their grant of the writ of certiorari. On the average, our high court decides to hear about five percent of the cases it is asked to hear on appeal, so it is a victory for MCRG just to be granted an Oregon Supreme Court hearing.

Families torn apart by Fresh Del Monte ICE Raids
Citizens for Peace and Justice will screen the documentary "Frozen Dreams" on May 6 in Medford, Oregon. The 30 minute film tells the story of the ICE raids at Del Monte in North Portland, Oregon on June 12, 2007. CP&J's film night in May is co-sponsored by Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice. The evening welcomes participants from UNETE a volunteer-led movement of farmworkers and immigrants in rural Southern Oregon. A light snack will be provided.
Frozen Dreams producer Emiliana Aguilar Reynosa will be traveling down from Portland for the film and she will be joined by three of the factory workers who were targeted in the 2007 immigration raid.
Following the film the Portland travelers will be joined by local activists for a panel discussion about the Del Monte raid, what has happened since and the ever growing need for comprehensive immigration reform. There will be ample opportunity for audience Q&A..

For 30 years, corporate CEOs and Wall Street speculators have put the squeeze on workers with globalization, privatization and union-busting.
They used their rising profits to buy Congress, convincing them to hand out tax breaks to the rich and gut banking regulations and consumer protections. Then they invented unscrupulous mortgage and investing practices, turning our financial system into a casino. When their speculation didn't pay off, they got Congress to bail them out to the tune of $15,000 for every household in America.
A tax on the speculators of the Wall Street casino could put 3 million people to work fixing our infrastructure, teaching our children, making our factories sustainable and improving our public services.

This message from Congressman Dennis Kucinich is a godsend for Southern Oregonians who have been fighting for Single Payer health care reform! It has been nerve racking to watch activists who have been tricked into supporting insurance companies and the greedy healthcare (non)system. What a HUGE waste of time, money, and energy! HCAN in particular has sold out the working class with a campaign based on lies and deception. Now we can only hope for one thing to happen in Washington DC. We need nothing short of a quick death to the current corporate sponsored healthcare reform, RIP.
