Lawmakers vow to continue fight for Medicare for All
Representatives Kucinich, Conyers & Sanders, 31-07-2010 - 14:41
Comment: Southern Oregonians are waiting for the misguided "healthcare bill celebration" to subside so that we can get back to work and fix the greedy patient-killing corporate healthcare in this United States. On the 45th anniversary of Medicare it is reassuring to know that the vision of President Lyndon Johnson and the 89th Congress for an America that ensures health care for everyone, through a comprehensive Medicare for all, not only still lives, but is an inevitability.
The following text is an open letter to the single-payer community from Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, Rep. John Conyers Jr. of Michigan and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. It was released on the eve of Medicare’s 45th anniversary.
Congress of the United States

Move Your $MONEY$ Southern Oregon
SWITCH TO A LOCAL BANK OR CREDIT UNION!, 09-07-2010 - 00:48
Ashland, Oregon * Independence Day, 2010
Southern Oregon's MOVE YOUR MONEY campaign debuted on the main drag during Ashland's Fourth of July parade. The parade entry from Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice (SOJwJ) included the Jefferson State Rollers. The helpful swarm of female roller derby skaters blasted Ashland with thousands of tri-fold Move Your Money brochures which rank regional banks and credit unions with the big Wall Street banks. Any guess which work best for the local economy?
People want to support local economic development and are tired of Wall Street excesses that have crippled our country. Move Your Money is a campaign to move money away from the big greedy Wall Street Banks and put the bucks where they will do the most good right here at home.
Check out July 4 parade photos and look at the PDF brochure for a detailed description of Move Your MONEY Southern Oregon.

AAUW & Louie's CELEBRATE Pay Equity Day in Ashland, Oregon
WOMEN EARN ONLY 77 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR-, 22-04-2010 - 22:01
"More than 46 years after passage of the Equal Pay Act woman continue to earn only 77 cents on the dollar compared to our counterparts. On Tuesday, April 20th, we are marking this symbolic day when women's wages actually catch up to what men made at the end of 2009!"--this was written on a paper we were handed by three charming greeters at the door on Tuesday upon entering Louie's...
The welcome came from American Society of University Women (AAUW) as the all-women crew (see photos) met us at the door with an invitation for some education and fun. We entered and found a packed house and an atmosphere that felt down-home friendly.
Here are a couple pictures (click to make them bigger) & keep readin' to hear more about Equity Pay Day...

TAX WALL STREET DAY OF ACTION - Apr. 15, 2010
SOUTHERN OREGON JOBS WITH JUSTICE, 14-04-2010 - 21:09
For 30 years, corporate CEOs and Wall Street speculators have put the squeeze on workers with globalization, privatization and union-busting.
They used their rising profits to buy Congress, convincing them to hand out tax breaks to the rich and gut banking regulations and consumer protections. Then they invented unscrupulous mortgage and investing practices, turning our financial system into a casino. When their speculation didn't pay off, they got Congress to bail them out to the tune of $15,000 for every household in America.
A tax on the speculators of the Wall Street casino could put 3 million people to work fixing our infrastructure, teaching our children, making our factories sustainable and improving our public services.

I Will Continue To Fight For Single-Payer
Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), 21-01-2010 - 20:03
I Will Continue To Fight For Single-Payer
This message from Congressman Dennis Kucinich is a godsend for Southern Oregonians who have been fighting for Single Payer health care reform! It has been nerve racking to watch activists who have been tricked into supporting insurance companies and the greedy healthcare (non)system. What a HUGE waste of time, money, and energy! HCAN in particular has sold out the working class with a campaign based on lies and deception. Now we can only hope for one thing to happen in Washington DC. We need nothing short of a quick death to the current corporate sponsored healthcare reform, RIP.
"We stand with Dennis Kucinich. We will keep on working and do whatever it takes to bring about the change that sends insurance companies packing. Let them insure cars and houses but keep them the hell away from our bodies and our health!"--Wes Brain, Rogue Valley Single Payer activist.

Senate Speech Heralds New Social Movement
O U T * W I T H * T H E * O L D * a n d * I N * W I T H * T H E * N E W, 23-12-2009 - 17:29
If you do only one more political thing this year as we put 2009 to bed--RIP, let it be to listen to Bernie Sanders on the floor of the United States Senate speak about Health Care Reform which boots out corporate greed! Sanders speech is being heralded the "New Social Movement" and this couldn't come at a better time...
For 2009 reflect for just a minute on all the garbage we have been subjected to pertaining to Health Care Reform and realize that from the start the campaign has been designed by the corporate greedy who literally buy reform that makes them lots & lots more money. Profit over people wins again. The campaign for healthcare reform loses, but out of it we have the "New Social Movement"
So let us do put 2009 to bed and permanently behind us. It has been a horrible year, however we deserve to end it on a high note. We need this. If you do only one more political thing this year listen to Bernie Sanders uplifting speech describing a wonderful vision for 2010. Not a campaign, a movement!--In solidarity, Wes Brain, Chair, Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice, CARRY ON!
The Bernie Sanders speech is at:

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Elected 2009's National Scrooge of the Year
J O B S * W I T H * J U S T I C E, 21-12-2009 - 21:54
DECEMBER 21, 2009--Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice (SOJwJ) announces: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Elected 2009's National Scrooge of the Year.
The Chamber's narrow, radical agenda advocating for anti-worker, profit-focused solutions to the broken health care, labor, and environmental systems garnered them the most votes for the national Jobs with Justice "Scrooge of the Year" award.
Southern Oregon has been alarmed at local Chambers of Commerces with First Amendment violations waged by the City of Ashland's Chamber after its sponsorship of the 2007 Fourth of July Parade. In 2008 SOJwJ and ACLU of Southern Oregon gave the Ashland Chamber of Commerce a Free Speech lesson
http://www.rogueimc.org/en/2008/07/13203.shtml
This year's Scrooge contest pitted the Chamber of Commerce against Bank of America, nominated for their role in the sub-prime lending crisis and failure to extend credit to small businesses. SOJwJ previously shouted out a patriotic warning about BoA on Dec. 12, 2008 with the People's Bail-Out Rally in Medford, Oregon

Medford Walmart heads towards Oregon Supreme Court
Medford Citizens for Responsible Development, 11-12-2009 - 23:21
Medford, Oregon, December 11, 2009--Medford Citizens for Responsible Development (MCRD) has not given up on the fight against powerful Walmart's legal team and the Superstore planned for South Medford. The fight continues and so do the worries about traffic congestion. Building such a monster store will bring on a super traffic nightmare, yet Medford refuses to do a traffic study which is required in their code. The area is already becoming a traffic nightmare even without building a Walmart Superstore.
MCRD has now petitioned the Oregon Supreme Court requesting a review of the earlier Court of Appeals Decision to Overturn a LUBA Ruling in the Matter of Requiring a Traffic Study for the Wal-Mart Superstore. (LUBA is Oregon's Land Use Board of Appeals)
We anticipate a decision by the Court to consider our appeal within 30 to 60 days.
Attached below is the petition for review delivered by MCRD's attorney to the Oregon Supreme Court earlier this week.
