Oregon Green Expo this Weekend in Medford
Community, 02-07-2009 - 02:55
The First Annual Oregon Green Expo "Celebrating a Greener Oregon" will be happening this weekend at the Medford Armory from Friday, July 3rd at 12noon through Sunday, July 5th at 4pm.
It promises to be a great regional event for our valley, helping to coalesce many folks with divergent interests yet who also share the common focus in ecological and economic sustainability, self-reliance and self-empowerment.
There will be something for everyone…whether your interest is hearing a keynote speech, participating in a town hall-type discussion, attending a hands-on product demonstration, watching leading edge films on sustainability themes, learning more about cooking with organic food or how to raise your children with an attitude of sustainability…it’s all here, under one roof…well, also under a Pacific Domes geodesic dome.

Resistance Magazine has returned
resistance, 01-07-2009 - 22:33
The question has now become not what we can do, but what we must do; not what we are comfortable with, but what we are fully capable of; not what is convenient, but what is completely necessary to stop the destruction of our home.

Coos Bay; Public Comments on Jordan Cove EIS
Friends of Living Oregon Waters, 01-07-2009 - 20:51
Here is an online listing of the comments from members of the public regarding the Jordan Cove corporation's planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility planned for the north spit of Coos Bay, OR.
In addition to risks from a severe seismic event on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, other risks include loss of eelgrass beds from dredging to allow the LNG tankers passage. Eelgrass is the base of the river's estuary food pyramid and loss of eelgrass beds from excess dredging would result in loss of fisheries..

"Mourn the dead, but fight like hell for the living"--Mother Jones, 29-06-2009 - 07:15
The Rogue IMC Editorial Board was recently contacted by Joe and given an update for the "...memorial site for my good friend Joanie McGowan..." He went on to tell about a bad link, and that "the real memorial site is alive and well at
http://joaniemcgowan.com ... May her spirit live on in peace"
Joanie McGowan's Birthday is Monday June 29, 2009 and so Joe's note couldn't have come at a better time to remember Joanie and also to remember the others who we have lost here in our Southern Oregon community. Champions and Angels, we are talking about Champions and Angels.

Cascadia Summer 2009
free, 06-05-2009 - 03:38
As long as the forests are threatened and we are able, every summer will be Cascadia Summer. The government repression of the last few years has weakened our communities, and many of our comrades are held hostage by the prison state; but our resistance cannot, and shall, not fade away. With the global economic crisis we have a window of unique opportunity: the compulsive building has slowed and timber prices are severely slumped. These companies cannot afford to deal with costly opposition. We invite you to join us in joyful resistance and ecological defense. Where will you be this summer when the chainsaws roll and the trees cry out?

Two Anti-I-69 Activists Arrested
www.infoshop.org, 26-04-2009 - 19:16
In what appears to be the culmination of a several year long case the
state has been building against I-69 resistance, two Indiana residents,
Tiga and Hugh, were arrested this afternoon. Although the charges against
the two include individual acts, for the majority they are trumped up
charges of conspiracy - fairly explicitly, conspiracy to collectively
organize, to challenge environmental and social devastation perpetrated by
the state and capital - leveled against any (not easily recuperative)
movement against I-69. Although it appears that no other warrants have
been issued, that for now no other individuals will be facing the severe
penalties these charges carry, it must be noted that this brash move by
the state is a most blatant affront to any initiative towards social
organization.

So Pac R/R blesses Ashland Earthday w/poison!
breather, 26-04-2009 - 00:11
high fives, smoking the stogies, cheers around the offices of the R/R workers!
way to go..."we showed those earth loving lovers!" -- oh by the way...message to the sprayers...your kids go to the schools on walker and breath the same air as people who actually care about the Earth...
the ones in power....are laughing at the stupids here in Ashland today!
one of our community members actually had to stop for the giant 5 ton flat bed truck, with large plastic 5000 gallon tank and 50 gallon drums...who was nice enough to turn off the industrial strength chemical spray as he drove his poison carrying truck across the road...at the R/R crossing on Walker...near Science works....at around 12:30pm today...
I only took two pictures of the white residue, that was actually sprayed on the tracks...and dripping down them
I am hoping more pictures and or video were taken...please post all!
come on ashland, wake up and smell the poison!!!!
they know that the time for industrial petrochemical distillates are soon going to be a thing of the past...so, they are forced to use all they can as fast as they can and choosing Earthday to spray, again Ashland, wake up...

Independent Media Week April 19 - 25, 2009
$ $ INDEPENDENT MEDIA IS NON-COMMERCIAL $ $, 17-04-2009 - 21:35
Ashland, Oregon’s 5th annual Independent Media Week will showcase a coalition of independent media producers, local activists and community groups organized around the theme “A well-informed citizenry is a cornerstone of democracy.”
In April 2005, the City of Ashland officially proclaimed its first Independent Media Week during the time when local activists were encouraging Jefferson Public Radio to broadcast Amy Goodman's “Democracy Now!” Activists at the time were also working to launch KSKQ, our local low-power FM community radio station. The keynote speaker at the headline event in 2005 was Amy Goodman.
Every year since the City of Ashland has proclaimed a week in April to highlight independent media. This year at the April 7th council meeting the City of Ashland proclaimed April 19-25, 2009 “Independent Media Week.” This year's keynote speaker at the Friday, April 24 main event is Peter Phillips from "Project Censored"
http://www.projectcensored.org
BTW, to update that 2005 campaign: Jefferson Public Radio refused to broadcast Democracy Now!, but it is heard daily on community radio KSKQ!

Greetings ALL ASHLANDERS...We need to be awake on Earthday April 25th
http://rogueimc.org/en/2008/04/11925.shtml
Please read this ABOVE article, I told my friend Andy about this and he told me...then he did this story above...
Please have your video cameras ready and still cameras...IMHO, I picture some godpig sitting behind a desk making orders telling his underlings to go show those earthlovers over in Ashland that he can do anything, spray anything he wants, any time...again IMHO....
OK off the soap box, but I do think if this happens again, it should be stopped!!! The same people who stepped up during the spraying by creeks SITUATION, should be awake again, thanks for readying and have those cameras ready!!!

BOYCOTT (ST)UMPQUA BANK!!!
Josh Schlossberg, Eco-Advocates, 08-04-2009 - 20:40
Communicating to those personally responsible for trashing our forests, poisoning our citizens, fouling our drinking water, and killing our salmon is a tactic often forgotten in grassroots advocacy to protect our priceless forests. But folksinger Utah Phillips spoke the truth when he said: "The earth is not dying, it is being killed, and those who are killing it have names and addresses."
