Pastors For Peace Cuban Caravan

A film series and talks on Cuba are being planned, leading up to the arrival of this year's Cuba Caravan. Dates for the film showings at Peace House, all at 7 pm, are Monday May 12: “Looking for Cuba”, Monday May 19 :“Bloque” , and Monday June 9: “Mission Against Terror”.
The talks/discussion on Cuba will be hosted by Socialist Action and will also be held at the Peace House. The dates for the talks are Wednesday, May 21st 7pm : "Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution" and Thursday, June 5th 7pm: "Cuba: The Case for Socialism"

May 1 march for immigrants rights

PLease join Unete and Razas Unidas for our annual May Day March for Immigrants Rights. We will gather at Alba park at 4:00pm for a few brief speeches and inspiration followed by a march through Medford pausing at the Ginger Rodgers square to pay honor to the more that 4500 people who have died since the construction of the Wall of Shame between Mexico and the US. We still need people to hold crosses at the square. Please let me know if you are available. There will be folks doing voter registration at the event as well. Citing national security needs, President Bush sends his Colombian Free Trade agreement to Congress on Monday. President Bush says Colombia has made enough progress to warrant a free trade agreement, but Democrats strongly oppose to the plan. Congress has 90 days to vote on it.

Petition to End Sweatshops and Slavery

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) - an organization of low-wage workers based in Immokalee, Florida - has launched a national petition campaign to demand that Burger King and other food industry leaders work with the CIW to improve the wages & working conditions of the workers who pick their tomatoes, and join with the CIW in an industry-wide effort to eliminate modern-day slavery & human rights abuses from Florida's fields.

Jackson County votes for Censorship & Ignorance

INDEPENDENT MEDIA WEEK - 2008, 06-04-2008 - 11:07

Keeping Citizens Uninformed Jackson County (located in Southern Oregon on the California border and I-5 corridor) gained new distinction in April, 2008 when elected officials decided NOT to support a proclamation for "Independent Media Week - 2008". By a vote of 2 to 1 Jackson County Commissioners were succinct with their 2007 decision to embrace censorship. Last year the entire Jackson County Library System was shut down for 6 months with officials citing a "lack of funds" as the reason. The library system later opened with greatly reduced hours and services, but only after privatizing the entire operation.
