A Call to Action From Occupy Medford
Nick Patterson, 15-01-2012 - 19:15
To our dearest compatriots here in the Rogue Valley:
We understand you need some clarification as to what the Occupy Movement is about. Contrary to what the media would have you believe, we are not all hippies, druggies, or anarchists. In fact, very few…say…1% of us are.

A musical fundraiser, starring the Rogue Suspects, for the ‘Medford 6’ Occupiers, arrested 12-5-11, for seeking representation from their Congressman, Greg Walden
6:30 p.m. January 5th at Roscoe’s BBQ in Phoenix
Who: The Rogue Suspects, Pete Herzog and Patrick Tovatt for "Occupy Walden"
What: A fundraiser for the “Medford 6” to help cover fines and future actions
When: 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012
Where: Roscoe’s BBQ, 117 S. Main St., Phoenix, OR
Why: Because we, the 99%, are not being represented by Rep. Greg Walden, R-OR, the sitting U.S. 2nd District Congressman, and we need to expose the fact that he only listens to and votes for the 1%, the wealthiest Americans and those who run the largest corporations in the U.S.

Giving Voice to Ohio Workers is a Win for All Workers
S E C R E T A R Y * O F * L A B O R, 11-11-2011 - 05:34
This victory is for all workers! In Southern Oregon early this year We Stood Up in solidarity with Wisconsin workers when they were under attack. Strong public rallies in both Medford and Ashland were consistent with a working class message of solidarity. People get it. We are the 99%. We will build a strong working class—Wes Brain
During an Ohio labor referendum Tuesday, a majority of voters rejected a state law that would have limited the collective bargaining rights of thousands of teachers, firefighters and police officers. "Ohio has made it clear: these dedicated public servants still need a seat at the table to demand fairness, dignity and respect — especially in tough economic times. Through their unions, they have a voice in their workplace, in their future and, most importantly, in our future," said Secretary Labor Hilda Solis in a statement.

Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice urges Walmart to be transparent about its political and charitable giving. New political reports shows difference between what Walmart says and where it gives.
Medford, Oregon— In response to new research released this week by Walmart Watch about the company’s political contributions, elected officials have been asked to urge Walmart to be transparent about its political and charitable giving. A vote on how political contributions are disclosed is expected at today’s annual shareholders’ meeting.
This Medford Walmart warning has a history. State Representative Peter Buckley’s concerns about Walmart expanding with a South Medford supercenter go back to 2005 with this video warning

Things you can do whether you're on "the Better Way Bus" or not...!
Bob Sexton, Director, Region 14 (Jackson & Josephine Counties), SEIU #503, 18-05-2011 - 23:17
Hello, fellow Southern Oregon SEIU/Labor/Social Justice activist!
If you're like me, you may be very frustrated that - much as you'd like to - you won't be able to attend SEIU's "Better Way Rally" in Salem this Friday. (Or maybe you ARE going? If so, please share this info anyway!) I'm MIGHTY glad to hear that SEIU is fielding TWO busses from the Southern Oregon area, but unfortunately, I won't be on them. However, I'm NOT going to let this opportunity pass me by without doing SOMETHING! I hope you'll spread this message to other coworkers, labor activists, and Oregon citizens who rely on the continuation of our services...

Cancer changes everything (George Mann)
Wes posts this one for Tanya Wray, 01-02-2011 - 03:43
1/31/11--Just back home a couple days from Australia George phoned today and told me about his new song and I am posting it on Rogue Indy in honor of my late daughter Tanya Wray whose spirit helps me every single day. Thanks for the tune, George!--wes
Friends:
This song is so new that I was surprised I got through it at my concert in Sydney, Australia the other night. Thanks so much to Wayne Richmond of Humph Hall for the space in which it was written and for the video. Link here, the videos are on the right side of the page, including two other songs from that night:
http://www.youtube.com/user/waynerichmond
I send this song out because I know that so many of you have been touched, as I have been, by the struggle of friends and family to overcome cancer in its many forms. I want us all to think about the food we consume, the cigarettes we smoke, and the cell phones we use (please use headsets and speaker phone as much as possible!).
I'm a cash poor folk musician in the US, but my hosts in Australia have made me feel like a million bucks these past two weeks. This is, in my own small way, a repayment for that kindness. I know this song and its subject are not easy to handle, but I hope you find the joy and love that are contained in it.--George Mann
