Rogue Residents Against Walmart urges Walmart to Respect Workers

Rogue Residents Against Walmart (Worker Retaliation), 24.11.2012 22:25

RRAW, Rogue Residents Against Walmart is in the process of possibly changing our name to RRAWWR - Rogue Residents Against Walmart Worker Retaliation.

RRAWWR asserts that most of the workers get so few hours that they qualify for food stamps, get no health or pension benefits until they have been with the corporation so many years, and that the Walton family has accumulated as much wealth as nearly half the US population by depriving their workers of a living.

Rogue Residents Against Walmart urges Walmart to Respect Workers

Today RRAW is standing up for Walmart Associates with the delivery of the following letter to Rachel Ciddio, General Manager, South Medford Walmart.

Rachel Ciddio,
General Manager
Southern Medford Walmart Center
Medford, OR

Dear Ms. Ciddeo:

We are here today in support of not only your Walmart associates but also those across the country who are on strike demanding respect. We ask that you hear these associates-the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and spouses who have been and will be speaking out for good jobs with decent pay, steady hours, affordable healthcare and most of all, respect. Instead of listening to them and working with the very people who help make Walmart so profitable, Walmart has retaliated against them for speaking out. They have been threatened, had their hours cut, their schedules turned upside down and fired.

While the Walton family has extracted from the operation of Walmart more accumulated wealth than that enjoyed by half the population of the United States, many of their "associates" (workers) face poverty. Call them the working poor -- who face life and death decisions every day when they or their children need to go the doctor, deciding whether to pay the rent or electric bill, or who in the family gets to be fed today.

This is simply unacceptable and we are calling on Walmart to change.

Our community supports these associates and we are asking Walmart to do the same by giving them a decent wage, enough hours to live on and affordable healthcare. Take this to heart, manage your stores with respect and implore your own bosses to do the same.
