CPJ PRESENTS: Immokalee U.S.A.

Join us for a free showing on large-screen TV of a documentary, Immokalee U.S.A., at 7 pm Thursday, February 4, in Lidgate Hall behind the main building and sanctuary of the Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford.

Here's what director Georg Koszulinski says about his film:

"Immokalee U.S.A. is mostly about the people who harvest our fruits and vegetables. It’s also about their families, their children, and their communities. Taken in a larger context, the film is also about the people and corporations who profit from their labor, like the farm owners, the landlords, and all of us, who consume the fruits and vegetables of their labor.

"After doing the research for (his previous film) Cracker Crazy, I learned a great deal about the forced labor, various forms of slavery, and economic peonage that existed in Florida from the 1st days of the Spanish conquest all the way to the present day. The issues migrant farm workers in the U.S.A. deal with are very much a continuation of this history and the primary reason I wanted to make Immokalee U.S.A. As an artist/activist/filmmaker, I take it as my responsibility to find these points of contact between history and the present, and to examine them carefully."

CPJ normally holds its CPJ Film Nites on the first Thursday of each month in Lidgate Hall of the Medford Congregational United Church of Christ. While CPJ is not in any way affiliated with the church, CPJ and its members are very grateful for the use of its space not only for Film Nites but also for the CPJ general meetings held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
