LNG Informational Meetings

No LNG in Oregon, 12.11.2009 03:40

Use Your Power - Stop LNG NOW
November 22, 1pm in Myrtle Creek
November 23, 6pm in Shady Cove

Join concerned community members for a meeting in Myrtle Creek or Shady Cove to discuss the current status of the Jordan Cove/Pacific Connector Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) proposal. The LNG project would build an import facility in Coos Bay and a 234-mile pipeline to California. The project threatens private property, water quality, salmon and other fish, wildlife, community safety and old-growth forests in southern Oregon while investing in foreign fossil fuel infrastructure.

Any month now, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission may sign a final order approving the project. The energy companies are seeking required permits and approval from various state and federal agencies. And concerned community members are exploring legal options to stop this ill-conceived project.

Attend one of these two meetings to get updates on the status and impacts of the proposed project and learn how you can help protect our waterways, fish, forests and communities. Speakers will include Jody McCaffree of Citizens Against LNG, Dan Serres of Columbia Riverkeeper, Francis Eatherington on behalf of affected landowners and Umpqua Watersheds and Lesley Adams of Rogue Riverkeeper.

The Myrtle Creek event is at the Myrtle Creek Grange (661 Riverside Dr.) and the Shady Cove event is at the Upper Rogue Community Center (22465 Highway 62).

For more information, call Rogue Riverkeeper at 541.488.5789.
