Wild & Scenic Film Festival Returns to RV

Ashlander, 10.11.2009 01:45

Wild & Scenic Film Festival Returns to Rogue Valley
National tour hosted locally by KS Wild, Sierra Club, Ashland Outdoors and Ashland and Medford Congregational Churches

What: The Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center and the Ashland and Medford Congregational Churches host the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Ashland and Medford. The Wild & Scenic On Tour brings together a selection of films from America’s largest environmental film festival, held annually in Nevada City, California. The films include narratives directly from people throughout the world engaged in mobilizing citizens to protect our natural resources and wild places. The films highlight the ‘tipping points’ that the planet is reaching, yet portray the ‘turning of the tides’ as communities realize and respond to these crises with creativity, resolve and heart.

We will be showing: “Division Street” as our feature film in Ashland- a creative look at the transportation crisis that appears to be spiraling out of control, a new generation of ecologists, engineers, city-planners, and everyday citizens are transforming the future of the American road; and "Renewal" as the feature in Medford-highlighting individual stories of communities drawing on their faith to find ways to be better stewards of the environment, and Run, Rogue Run- a local short film covering the campaign to Save the world class Wild Rogue River right in our back yard. Please visit www.kswild.org for a more complete list and description of films to be screened.

This promises to be an uplifting, community-building event that will feature brief speakers from KS Wild, with the screening on the 19th featuring Ashland’s Mayor John Stromberg. Refreshments will be served.

When: Thursday, November 19th, and Friday, November 20th each at 6:30pm.

Where: The 19th: Ashland Congregational Church, 717 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland; the 20th: Medford Congregational Church, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford

Who: The Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center and the Ashland and Medford Congregational Churches are local hosts of this national film festival, which is co-sponsored by the Rogue Group of the Sierra Club and the Ashland Outdoor Store.

The Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival is an alliance of conservationists and the following businesses: Clif Bar, Tom’s of Maine, Earth Cinema Circle, Sierra Nevada Brewery and Whole Foods Market. These five like-minded companies join presenting sponsor, Patagonia, in the campaign to use film to inspire activism.

Why: As we face tremendous environmental challenges, from water pollution and climate change to large-scale agriculture and species extinction, there is a pressing need for communities to gather and discuss a sustainable path forward. The festival brings communities together around local environmental issues and offers filmgoers an immediate way to take action. Film is a powerful and neutral way to introduce people to the concerns affecting our planet.
