Beaming Smiles Prove That Lady Liberty's Light Still Glows

Magistrate Judge Mark D. Clarke officiated at a naturalization ceremony which brought together an assembly of immigrants, family, friends, lawyers, and court officials in a gathering that represents Lady Liberty's beacon to the world.

Judge Clarke's early comment received a response of laughter and smiles when he stated, "the good news is there are no more tests." The largest of the smiles came from immigrants. Next their expressions changed and they become serious listeners as the ceremony moved forward. All 60 participants held up their right hands and took the oath that gave them new citizenship.

The ceremony ended with each new citizen being handed a naturalization certificate and then securing a handshake with Judge Clarke. After the official proceedings many in the procession joined the Judge in an adjacent room for photos and more celebration.
