DNC Protests: Day One

The march took place through the streets of Denver on a parade route that was pre-approved by the city of Denver. The route was explicit in that it would take us to the "free speech zones," affectionately called the "freedom cages" or "fascism cages" depending on who you ask. At one point, we were approached by a Fox News reporter who had earlier had words with Hampton and the crowd erupted in a "FUCK FOX NEWS!!" chant, drowning out the poor reporter.

A number of anarchists were standing in the street throwing up peace signs when the police opened fire with rubber bullets and mace to drop them for detention and arrest. Really scary stuff. The rest of us remained to stand off with the police and provide solidarity for our fallen comrades.

A bunch of small factions did fund raising and bail support and jail solidarity all day. I was recruited through a friend called Spoonboy for a late shift and I just got back. Beforehand there was a World Can't Wait/Bash Back counter-protest against some people with signs reading things like "homo-sex is a sin" that ended with a queer kiss-in. One of the homo sin people said that the decline of America began when women got the right to vote.

I am in Minneapolis right now and the police state is already in full swing. At least four houses and the convergence space have already been raided, including at least six arrests. Noah still missing 09.09.2008 - 20:40 Our reporter Noah Balloon is still missing. He has not checked in with the studio and has missed several scheduled interviews. He was picked up in the mass arrests on Sunday. Maybe was released and maybe re-arrested? The details are sketchy.
