CPJ Events Thursday, Friday and Saturday

CPJ Volunteer, 22.07.2008 17:31

Dear Friends of Citizens for Peace & Justice, Please join us for one or all of the events listed below. Some of us may want to believe that getting Barack Obama elected president is all we need to do to assure a more peaceful world. We all hope that if Senator Obama gets elected, he will end the war in Iraq, tone down the US's bellicose rhetoric toward Iran and other nations, emphasize diplomacy and restore Constitutional rights to our citizens and our prisoners. But Obama seems committed to escalating the war in Afghanistan and there is no assurance that he really will end the war in Iraq. Even if he is elected, we, the peace community, will need to keep the pressure on President Obama and the Congress to walk the talk and change the course of this nation from imperialistic to compassionate. That's why I urge all of you to keep involved in peace activities in your community, to keep the momentum alive, to maintain our contacts and our energy level. We are going to be needed whoever is elected president in November.

Therefore, here are some options for you to participate for peace:

1. "Stand of Peace" in Grants Pass at 4:30 pm this Thursday, July 24th, in front of the Josephine County Courthouse, 500 NW Sixth St. Bring your signs with your message for peace and/or justice. At 5:30 pm adjourn to the Newman United Methodist Church annex across the street for a discussion of the impeachment bill authored by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, which is pending in the House. This event is held at the same places on the 4th Thursday or each month.

2. "An Evening with Jeff Golden," at the home of Loree Arthur in Grants Pass at 6 pm Friday, July 25th. Jeff will read from his new book, Unafraid: A Novel of the Possible. Thirty folks have signed up already. A free dinner and softdrinks will be served. To attend, please RSVP to either Ruth Dailey, 479-8378, or Loree Arthur, 441-3270, to make your reservations and get directions to Loree's home.

3. "CPJ 4th Saturday Rally for Peace" -- Bring your signs and your good spirits to the Rogue Valley Mall at 12 noon this Saturday, July 26. We'll meet on the perimeter of the mall just north of the Shell service station on Crater Lake Highway in Medford. We'll see you there!
