News:

KLAMATH BASIN CITY COUNCILS ENDORSE KLAMATH SETTLEMENT AND DAM REMOVAL
Klamath Falls Herald and News - 5/9/08

Four Klamath Basin city councils have endorsed the proposed Klamath
Basin Restoration Agreement, and now supporters are trying to
convince Klamath County commissioners to do the same. The cities of
Merrill, Malin, Chiloquin and Tulelake agreed to officially support
the settlement following presentations by proponents. Stakeholders
also plan to meet with the Klamath Falls City Council, Klamath County
Chamber of Commerce and other businesses.

NEC WEIGHS STANCE ON KLAMATH AGREEMENT
Eureka Times-Standard - 5/14/08

Scientific and legal reviews commissioned by the Northcoast
Environmental Center may have the environmental group reconsidering
its position not to support the Klamath River settlement agreement
hatched earlier this year. Utah State University Klamath researcher
Thomas Hardy wrote to the NEC in an April review that his initial
concerns about the deal have been met. Known for his work on how much
water salmon need in the river, Hardy said that the agreement
represents an extension of that work, and that conditions in the
river would vastly improve under a final agreement that removes
Pacificorp's four dams.

FEDS PULL PLUG ON TRINITY WATER SHIFT
Eureka Times-Standard - 5/10/08
 http://www.times-standard.com/localnews/ci_9216302
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has backed away from a proposal to
take more water from the Trinity River this year, citing a 2000
Interior Secretary decision on fisheries restoration. Reclamation
was considering a shift from a normal year to a dry year, which would
have stifled releases from Lewiston Dam to the river. Water managers
were looking to possibly adjust the seasonal forecast used to craft
the flows to reflect conditions in May, instead of the April 1 date
called for in the 2000 record of decision... The Hoopa Valley Tribe
wrote in a May 6 letter to Reclamation that such a move would be
patently illegal.

LES CLAYPOOL TO LEAD DAZZLING LINE-UP OF MUSICIANS AT SALMON AID
FESTIVAL
Press Release - 5/18/08
 http://www.klamathriver.org/Press-Release-Salmon%20Aid.html
Bay Area alternative rock royalty and Primus front-man Les Claypool,
whose thumping bass lines and unique worldview have become the
calling cards for a number of wildly successful and influential
albums in the last two decades, will lead a diverse roster of twenty
bands on two live outdoor stages at Oakland=92s 2008 SalmonAid
Festival. Claypool, The Zydeco Flames, Stacy Kray, Sizemo, Saul Kaye,
Captain Zohar, Tia Carroll, Manaleo, Captain Mike & The Sea Kings,
Asheba, John Craigie, The Bobby Young Project, Eliyahu & Qadim, and
other performing artists promise to provide loads of fun when they
join West Coast fishermen, tribes, restaurateurs and conservationists
on May 31 and June 1 in Oakland=92s Jack London Square to celebrate
wild Pacific salmon.

SALMON AID INJECTED INTO FARM BILL
Eureka Times-Standard - 5/13/08
 http://www.times-standard.com/ci_9244546
A $170 million aid package has been included in a federal farm bill
for salmon fishermen and related businesses facing an unprecedented
shutdown of fishing along the West Coast this year. Rep. Mike
Thompson issued a statement this morning, saying that Congress is
expected to pass the final version of the bill later this week.
Ocean salmon fishing has been closed this year after a collapse of
vital salmon stocks in the Sacramento River basin. Regulators weighed
the possibility of a limited salmon season, but could not justify it
based on the expected number of spawning fish returning to the river.
Those numbers may be even lower next year. The fishery was also
closed in Washington because of poor returns expected to the Columbia
River.

DEMOCRATS BASH FEDS OVER SALMON COLLAPSE
Sacramento Bee - 5/15/08
 http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/942060.html
West Coast Democrats amassed Thursday at a House hearing on the
collapse of salmon stocks. Brimming with anger, they pointed fingers
at federal fishery officials for writing scientific reports that let
it happen. "We're devastated, and our communities are devastated,"
said Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara. "They haven't been using good
science. It's sophomoric. People are losing their livelihoods."
Capps' comments came as a dozen or so West Coast Democrats at the
House Natural Resources fisheries subcommittee grilled Rodney
McInnis, administrator of the National Marine Fisheries Service's
regional office in Long Beach.

What Would Al-Q Do?
23.05.2008 - 11:20

Someone needs to ask this question;

If we cannot remove these intrusive and destructive dams (lower four Klamath) by legal means, what are our other options?

Am certainly not looking forward to a lifelong prison sentence, though the voice of Osama B. rings in my head that an Al-Qda of One may be needed (Allah willing) to rescue the Klamath salmon from extinction at the hands of the dams. This would in effect give legendary status to the Al-Q group beyond 9/11 (old hat), giving Al-Q some positive options that would not result in loss of human life AND also help save salmon and sturgeon from extinction. Of course Warren Buffet and BushCo. et. al. would not be happy, but that is also the desired outcome of this operation. Among the salmon lovers, western Al-Q operatives who are able to bring down these dams would become heroes instead of villians.

From the As-Sahab website, recent changes following the disappearance of Azzam Al Ameriki (leading Al-Q propaganda opertive) indicates that Al-Q is no longer needing their members to recieve direct orders from up top (Osama B.) and are encouraged to act independently as small cells. We could have a west coast Al-Q that is less restrictive towards people of alternative sexuality and allows occasional smoking of cannabis, though discipline and discreetness is essential. Alcohol use prior to any operations would be discouraged as this impairs judgement, balance and other needed senses required when engaging the imperialist on this level.

Western Al-Q would attempt to build bridges with local indigenous peoples who continue to suffer under U.S. colonialism and occupation by destroying the Klamath dams that result in the near extinction of salmon. We do not need to contrast religion with spirituality, as we're all fighting for sanctity of living beings against the machine of imperialism. As Al-Q remains spiritual with Allah and recognizes that all living beings in the forests, deserts, mountains, rivers, swamps and oceans are sacred and worthy of respect, the guiding hand of Allah and Al Lat (Earth Goddess) will ensure the success of western Al-Q in physically removing these Klamath dams by any means needed.

We wish the activists who employ legal methods for Klamath dam removal the best of success, though we also recognize the possible need for additional methods should the legal means prove themselves not effective in a timely manner as needed by the salmon for their survival. Allah be with us.

Al-Q of One
