Rally to Stop Colombia Trade Deal in Medford

"Free Trade", 05.05.2008 20:54

This WEDNESDAY: Rally to Stop the Colombia Trade Deal in Medford

Help take a stand for human rights and Oregon jobs by joining us at one of two rallies against the Colombia Free Trade Agreement:

Wednesday, May 7 * 12 noon Outside Senator Wyden's Medford Office Federal Courthouse * 310 W 6th St * Medford, OR

The Bush administration and corporate lobbyists continue pushing Congress to pass the Colombia Free Trade Agreement -- a NAFTA-style trade deal that ignores Colombia's atrocious human rights record and that will undoubtedly cost Oregon jobs. Despite successfully blocking it from being forced to a vote under "Fast Track," there is increasingly talk of a deal that could allow it to reach the floor this year. Opposing the Colombia trade agreement should be a no brainer, but some of Oregon's Congressional delegation still remain "undecided." Trade cannot be "free" when workers are denied their basic freedoms of speech and assembly. Corporate-funded death squads roam the streets of Colombia, forcing millions to accept the country's sweatshop working conditions. Since 1991, over 2,300 Colombian labor activists have been murdered there, and the rate of impunity for the murder of trade unionists remains over 97%. Wednesday, May 7 * 12 noon Outside Senator Wyden's Medford Office Federal Courthouse * 310 W 6th St * Medford, OR

Call (503) 736-9777 for carpooling information and more. If you can't make either event, please call Congresswoman Hooley (503) 557-1324 and Senator Wyden at (541) 858-5122 and urge them to publicly oppose the Colombia trade deal.
