Community Gathering in Memory of Bennett

Vanessa Houk, 14.04.2008 09:49

Monday April 14, 2008 in the Gresham Room at the Ashland Library at 12 noon until 3pm, there will be a gathering in memory of Bennett Tanner.

Noon to 3 pm there will be a gathering/potluck for the community and friends of Bennett Tanner who will be remembered as Ashland's "professional optimist".

In early February, burned remains were found in Lithia Park and toxicology reports confirm what many of his friends suspected. Bennett died sometime in December near the quarry when his campsite caught fire. Police say they are still investigating signs of foul play. Some of Bennett's friends have reported that in the weeks before he disappeared he had been being harassed by someone and had expressed he had been a victim of anti-semitism. Previous attempts at reaching out for help through the 9-11 system failed Bennett who previously said that he was told not to call 9-11 for help after the operator established that he was a homeless person.

Let's gather and remember a man who lead a simple, peaceful life and is missed for his sense of humor and his gentle spirit.

Recap:
Monday April 14, noon to 3 pm in the Ashland Library Gresham Room
At 3 pm, friends will walk to Lithia Park.
