Pictures and short note of thanks for all those who particpated in Saturdays March and Rally.
Dear Friends of Citizens for Peace & Justice,
Despite the weather, Southern Oregon showed up bigtime in Alba Park today for the "5 Years Too Many: End the War NOW!" rally. Estimates of the crowd ranged from about 180 to 200+.
The Rogue Valley Peace Choir was fantastic and the march was fun, and I didn't hear about any mishaps along the way. Kathy & Dagoberto and their crew did a wonderful job of providing safe street crossings along the whole route.
Many thanks to our speakers who "spoke their peace" from their hearts today. Thanks to Jill Mackie, dozens and dozens of postcards were written at the rally that she will deliver to the local offices of Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith and Congressman Greg Walden, urging them to stop financing the Iraq War and demand that the troops be brought home now.
Hal Anthony with help from Wes Brain and Brenda Gould reminded everyone that it is easy to phone your congressman or senator or the White House -- simply call 1-800-828-0498 and ask the operator to connect you with the office of the official of your choice.
I urged folks to support those in the military who resist orders to go to Iraq on moral grounds. To find out how you can help, go on line to
http://www.couragetoresist.org.
We hope we've given you the tools and the incentive to participate more effectively in our democratic system to demand that our leaders end the war now.
Yours for peace & justice,
Allen

Thanks for posting this event & shining light on the blackout! 16.03.2008 - 09:12
So sad that the Mail Tribune refused to use one ounce of ink to cover this event! The Mail Tribune (recently dropped "Medford" from its name) touts itself to be "Southern Oregon's News Source" yet ignores several hundred citizens who march & rally strong for peace. How can this be? It is the newspaper's "right" to ignore news. The first amendment guarantees it. But what a disservice to all of Southern Oregon to NOT report such an event. Thousands of people throughout the region will not even know that this event took place on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Mainstream Media continues to promote Bush's war for oil and empire.
