The memorial circle in honor of Bennett Tanner became more of a banana shape precariously perched at the top of a hill, steep on one side, a cliff on the other. The banana kind of hung on a small cross with a star of David drawn onto it, surrounded by a casting of madrone berries to give the marker a glowing aura when viewed from below the hill.


Clockwise around the banana, each person spoke a little about their thoughts about Bennett, one person played a flute, another played a guitar. Then, Bennett's voice, from his first appearance on KSKQ's Open Mic, telling about how he was conned into adopting 10 invisible babies and his headaches in taking care of them. It was hard to imagine that Bennett could be dead. But found at the burned campsite were some of his signs with which he performed for people on Main Street, so it couldn't be denied: that was his campsite. Right under people's noses, perhaps just a few dozen feet from the road. Laying there on a misty morning, looking up the tree-covered hill that towers over the old quarry, the eyeful of deep vivid green would have been a peaceful grounding of the soul starting a day that might have included some struggles...

Also, deer add a gentleness to the place. Bennett being one of the most harmless and gentle of people....
