Wyden Town Hall: For Drivers Only
Steve Ryan, 19.02.2008 08:03
Thank you Senator Wyden for holding the Health Care Town Hall in Medford at RVMC tomorrow; too bad us non-drivers aren't welcome because we can't f'n get there without the Route 4.
Here is my argument:
1. Thank you Senator Wyden for holding the Health Care Town Hall Feb. 20
2. I can*t come because I don*t drive, because its at RVMC, and the bus to RVMC was cancelled 20 months ago
3. I could get a ride, but what about my friend who is in a 500-lb wheelchair?
4. Only car drivers are welcome to the administer the new Oregon Health Plan.
5. The bus still goes to Providence, so we subsidize travel to the private hospital, but don't subsidize travel to the Black Oak Medical Clinic and other affordable options concentrated in one area.
6. Only car drivers are welcome in health policy discussion.
RVTD deserves vast credit for the Valley Lift Plus program, but the fact is, public systems run better when they compliment each other, and there are many lower-cost options on the old Route 4 corridor that arent available elsewhere in the valley. The Senator deserves credit for holding the meeting during public transportation hours, but low-income health care consumers can't get to the meeting. Thanks to all for the great work weve accomplished, but youre still missing the obvious, we cant friggin get there!!
There will be some Libertarians that will comment, *we should get rid of public transportation AND hospital subsidies.* Yeah, that and farm subsidies, oil company subsidies, steel tariffs, and all medical and product regulation as well. Have you ever read the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the USA? 500 pages of sheer protectionism. Call strategic trade what it is.
Details: When it comes to health care, Americans need … comprehensive reform that will address the spiraling costs of insurance, while guaranteeing that every American has quality, affordable health care.

It is well within our reach to create a universal health care system where every American is guaranteed quality, affordable health care that is at least as good as what their Member of Congress has today.
