- http://www.DontDriveOnSunday.com Resumes National Gasoline Protest Dec 2, ‘07

Site Urges Protesters to “Stay Home and Do Nothing… Just Don’t Drive On
Sunday December 2, 2007!”

For Immediate Release: Columbia, Missouri, In it’s second year of operations, Don’t Drive On Sunday dot com is seeking to put millions of cars in park on Sunday, December 2, 2007.

"Don't Drive On Sunday was created so that anybody and everybody can
protest rising gas prices by simply parking their cars." Says Patrick
Rule, webmaster for the project. “The site isn't asking people to vote,
or write to Congress, or to donate money. We just want people to stay at
home and Don't Drive On Sunday."

The web site is calling for ten million drivers to “park it” on Sunday, December 2nd, 2007. The Don’t Drive On Sunday dot com web site now features an online forum, where people can voice their opinion on the gas crisis, and pledge to park their cars on Sunday, December 2nd.

“There is a great deal of anger out there about the rising costs of everything.” Says Rule. “With oil prices bouncing around $100.00 a barrel, the cost of all consumer goods and services is going to go up. Our idea is one way for people to do something by doing nothing, just Don’t Drive On Sunday.”

Based on the Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation
Statistics web site, "U.S. daily travel averages 11 billion miles a day
- almost 40 miles per person per day". Assuming the average driver
consumes about two gallons of gasoline or more traveling on Sunday,
taking just one million cars off the road would save at least two
million gallons of gas.

"Imagine Ten Million Cars staying home, just one Sunday, saving Twenty
Million Gallons of gas. At $3.25 per gallon, this would take more than
$65,000,000.00 retail dollars out of the Oil Economy…" Don't Drive On
Sunday dot com confidently proclaims. "…But it only takes One Car… One
Person… YOU! And You really don't have to do anything…
Just Don't Drive On Sunday!"

The web site also features a support page, where people can print ready
made flyers to distribute, featuring a simple logo: the familiar Red
Circle and Slash with an SUV in the background and the words DON'T DRIVE
ON SUNDAY in big bold type. The message is simple: "Fight Greedy Oil
Companies… Don't Drive On Sunday". "But it’s more than greed that we need to focus on this time around." Says Rule, "We all need to take personal responsibility for
the ongoing crisis, and make our voices heard. Everyone can step up and
do something, simply by addressing the problem from the demand side of the
equation."

“Breaking Ranks” Film Showing Monday, December 10th: 6pm-Potluck, 7pm-Film
Peace House 543 S. Mountain; Ashland FREE

Breaking Ranks is a moving documentary that examines the current phenomena of US soldiers seeking refuge in Canada as part of their resistance to the war effort in Iraq. Filmed over the course of the refugee process, this provocative film explores the meaning of duty through the powerful testimonies of these young soldiers. Breaking Ranks is a universal story about the painful forming of character, of men growing to manhood in more complex ways than they expected. Heroes to some and traitors to others, as these young men navigate the international controversy caused by their decisions; their stories raise challenging questions about citizenship and the meaning of duty.
