Report from Amman
Mary Madsen - Collateral Repair Project, 25.11.2007 17:32
Dear Friends,
As many of you know I have just returned from Amman, Jordan, where I spent 3 weeks documenting stories for the Collateral Repair Project. I went there with my friend and the founder of CRP, Sasha Crow. In Amman, we met with and were accompanied by our Iraqi counterpart, Faiza Alaraji, herself a refugee from Baghdad.
I will be giving a "Talk Back" on this experience on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 pm. at SOU in Stevenson Union, Room 330. I hope many of you can attend.

If you cannot attend, I'd like to offer to speak to your peace and justice or faith group in the near future. I'll be available most anytime. These are such important stories, all too few of which are known to the general population. The refugee crisis is of incredible proportion both inside and outside of Iraq. Contrary to the news stories we are currently being fed, few refugees are returning of their own will. Most have run out of money to live on in their host countries and none are allowed to work legally. Many of those who are returning are returning to refugee camps within Iraq, simply exchanging one refugee status for another.
While the situation is bleak for many of these families, both inside and outside of Iraq, there are ways to help. And Collateral Repair Project is working hard to give people from coalition countries ways to become personally involved in bringing much needed help and hope to individuals and families in Jordan and Iraq. Reading about the emergency is one thing, but putting the human face and words to the story is so important and so much more powerful. Can you, your peace and justice group or faith group host an event for me? Please email me at
mrymads@charter.net or call me at 541-770-5274 if you can help.
Thank you so much,
Mary Madsen
