It’s a matter of Pride
June 9, 2007
"Everyone on the planet is welcome to attend and offer their ideas and suggestions."

Southern Oregon Pride is an event in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals, their friends, and families gather to promote visibility and validate their existence in a safe and comfortable environment. Now, more than ever, we need this event to be a success. The Center is in danger of closing due to a lack of volunteers and intermittent financial support.

HERE IS AN EARLY REPORT BACK, PHOTOS TAKEN AT SET-UP TIME LONG BEFORE THE EVENT KICKED OFF

The Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center has an important mission: To connect the community across ages, genders, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientation. Some of the invaluable services we provide are: a free drop-in community center, counseling, HIV testing, a resource library including internet access, a social network, and a space where groups of a similar mission can hold and coordinate programs of their own design. The Center is an invaluable resource for individuals facing the unique challenges and joys of identifying as LGBT. But we need your help!

This year’s Pride promises to be filled with as much information, entertainment and fun as we can possibly have. The event is to be held June 9, 2007, from 2:00-7:00 PM at Veteran’s Park in Medford. Booth space will be available for profit ventures and businesses advertising their services, as well as unlimited space at no charge for non-profit ventures. Last year, 200 people attended with minimal food offerings and non-alcoholic beverages. This year, we will offer food booths, beverage concessions including beer and wine, and non-stop entertainment. See the enclosed application for booth prices and size limits. If your presence is not possible, then perhaps you’d be willing to post the enclosed flyer in a conspicuous place so that co-workers and customers can be informed of the event. Any support you can give, in whatever fashion, is greatly appreciated.

We believe that information is power, and that someday, by educating the community and encouraging others, neither barriers nor walls will divide us. Please help bring us closer to that day.
