Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice update

This last Sunday, dozens gathered for the Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice press conference and 1st official meeting since receiving its national charter. Channel 12 news was on hand to record the charter declaration and musical guest.

Organizational members assembled representing Southern Oregon Central Labor Counci, Oregon Fair Trade Campaign, Jackson County Pacific Green Party, Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands, and Disabled United (DUDE). Representative from Unete' discussed immigration rights, the activities of Unete' and planned May Day actions.
Steve Ryan, SOJwJ board member and RVTD board candidate was on hand representing students, remarking on student activism that "students have been involved in this ever since the Freedom Rides of the 1960's"
One of the first acts was to show solidarity for the Save Our Libraries campaign. Volunteers with the campaign were available for questions and for encouraging support. County Commissioner Dr. Dave Gilmour gave an honest assessment at Oregon's chances for Federal bailout, stressing the urgency of passing the current bond measures, warning if they fail, "we will loose the entire infrastructure if that would happen." Josh Gordon of Save Our Libraries warned "antipathy is killing everything."
Elected to Board positions were Chairperson, Wes Brain; Vice Chair, Brenda Gould; Secretary, Beverly DeLeonardis; Treasurer, Steve Ryan; Board members include Jim Alexander, Bill Yeazel, Beverly Davis, Kurt Kessler, Anne Carlson and Smoki Donaldson.
