Got Panels, Need Battery
SOU Media Collective, 27.04.2007 20:13
SOU Media Collective student activist organizing group since 2000 just went solar! But we need (a) car battery(ies). Please consider donating a working car battery so students can get off the grid.
smart, sexy, responsible new solar array (alas without battery)
Those smart, zany, intelligent, responsible, sassy, hip, with-it, sexy SOU Media Collective students are at it again, with a brand new solar array to power laptops, so we can kiss our VGA monitors goodbye for ever and take responsibility for our consumption, but we need a working car battery to store all the free electricity that falls from the sky every day. Please consider donating a working car battery to the SOU Media Collective so we can make the next issue of the Soapbox Magazine coal- and salmon-free. Yay! Almost.
As always, thanks, and don*t forget the bullhorn.

Not car batteries... 28.04.2007 - 14:26 You don't want car batteries, you want deep cycle batteries. A car's battery is designed to provide a very large amount of current for a short period of time. A deep cycle battery is designed to provide a steady amount of current over a long period of time. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question219.htm
nerd> you're right about that, thank you 28.04.2007 - 14:45 you're right about that, we do want deep cycle batteries, but its a cost issue right now and in the short run, the car battery will work for a demonstration project. The major focus of this project is to let our students know that pv is doable now, here, not far away by engineers and rocket scientists. So yes, deep cycle batteries are optimal but we'd love whatever we can get, including your advice, which we thank you for humbly. soumc> |
