On Oct. 24, 2003, Molly Ivins made an incredible appearance at the Medford Armory that was organized by Peace House and co-sponsored by Citizens for Peace & Justice. Jeff Golden was the MC that evening when the building was jammed with about 2,000 folks, one of the largest gatherings of progressives ever in this valley.

"The Miami Model" In November 2003, trade ministers from 34 countries met in Miami, Florida, to negotiate the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). To show their opposition to the FTAA, thousands of union members, environmentalists, and human rights activists also gathered in Miami.
What happened there was a disturbing example of the state of free speech under a wartime president. Protestors were attacked with rubber bullets, pepper spray, electric tazer guns, and shock batons, all coordinated by the new United States Department of Homeland Security, and paid for by an $8.5 million line item within the $87 billion appropriation for the Iraq war.
THE MIAMI MODEL also showcases the issues that drove the protestors to Miami, and the alternative models of grassroots resistance, creative action sustainable development, and solidarity that they came to promote.
"The Wealthy Fore$t(ers) Initiative" Is a film production takes a look at the Biscuit Burn, an area fire that was the largest in all of the United States, and puts into perspective the so-called “healthy forest initiative”,
the current federal forest plan which is backed by big corporate lumber,
Oregon’s Representative Greg Walden and the Bush Administration.
This video exposes a wolf in sheep’s clothing with multiple interviews conducted on site within the Biscuit Burn. Viewers will see footage showing an area that is not “all blackened trees that have to be harvested before they go to waste” (the hype). Learn the other side of the story and aside from the corporate hype find out how the healthy forest initiative is really the wealthy fore$t(ers) initiative.
These free movies are part of a film festival honoring Independent Media Week here in Ashland Oregon. For information call Jason at 541-227-3424.
