Citizens for Peace and Justice (CP&J) struck a chord in Southern Oregon with their organizing of a huge peace rally, march and a "peace summit", all held on Saturday March 17, 2007 in Medford, Oregon.
CP&J's extensive planning payed off as hundreds came from throughout the region. One television network reported on their local evening news that the numbers "approached 400"

COMMENTS FROM SOME OF THE CP&J ORGANIZERS
Christine Haynie: "The speakers were wonderful, each one bringing something fresh to the day"
Ruth Dailey: "What a wonder-full day. I had a blast."
Linda Richards: "...the momentum feels lit by the successful event on Saturday and....How can I ever thank Cpj for getting the ball rolling???? and letting me participate beyond behind the scenes to in front of the mic. ....the ball is rolling now, I feel it and know it and I hate to leave town just when I am sure plans are being laid for the next demo, that is just what an event is supposed to do and it worked like magic, with lots of new faces"
Mary Madsen: "We had standing room only in the large meeting room, even after hauling in extra chairs from the other room. The speakers were all spot on. The Peace Choir was spectacular. I truly believe we accomplished, or exceeded our goals.
Allen Hallmark: "Dear Friends, What an amazing feeling it was to see all our hard work pay such dividends on the streets of Medford and in the library (may its closure be very short-lived.) Thank you, thank you, thank you for the inspiration, the effort and the tenacity to organize such a full day of activities that just seemed to flow organically the whole way. What a team!
Debbie Herzog: "Thanks everyone! What a great day."
Brenda Gould: "Our library was aglow. What a privilege, to march from the protest and stand together protected by its broad shelter and center of learning and looking out to the world. With the Peace Choir singing, it was almost like being in heaven. Those library rocks proved to be just the platform for our speakers. It is a very small comfort, but nice to know anyhow: we'll still have those rocks to stand on when they lock the library doors. We may rally there again and address the community. They can't take those rocks away, can they?"
Arlene Aron: "Thank you CPJ for a great event- I hope you feel your hard work paid off, it was well planned and well attended. I always wish there were even more folks and more traffic to check us out. Good job you guys rock........ peace"
Hal Anthony's comments: "Saturday, March 17, 2007 saw a Peace rally to equal anything prior in Medford since Mr. Bush began his trend of Executive commissions, Constitutional treason, secret government, lies and betrayal of the US public.
After hearing Oregon State Representative Peter Buckley
http://www.peterbuckley.org speak, I have rekindled hopes that the unseen anchor chains of this too invisible distant war -- chains attached to the US taxpayers, to our troops, and to our Constitution -- will continue to be more clearly seen for what they are: binders against Peace, and harmful to our troops. The truth is not what the American people can't bear -- rather, it's the ever increasing weight of denial that is breaking our social, financial, and spiritual backs. Please ask yourself whether you are indeed thinking critically, and question what you are told and what you hear. GET FACTS, and www.fcnl.org
http://www.fcnl.org , as you will see, is an indisputable source for the truth and accuracy. Question and verify them, too.
Peace will happen some day. It's not whether, just when. The more important question is will you have prompted the arrival of a world free from tearing each other's flesh apart, or will you have delayed it? Human beings are all magnificent, and deserving of serving one another. Help do that by telling your legislators to get with the program, 1-800-828-0498. Ask for an answer to what THEY are doing to promote Peace and PROTECT our troops.
My hat is off to all who would support our troops by questioning the authority that would put them needlessly in harms way, when there are scores of alternatives to pursue."

Medford Library Shines 19.03.2007 - 08:11 Our library was aglow on Saturday. They can't take those rocks away, can they? I really can't imagine life without libraries----I will feel the spirit of the library every time I walk or ride by it. Two years ago, CP&J was spearheading an Anti-Patriot Act Resolution drive for Jackson County. A central aspiration was to keep Big Brother out of our libraries. Commissioner Gilmour threw all his support to our effort, but we never persuaded another commissioner or candidate for that office. Little did we dream that they might lock-up our libraries.
