Fox News Scared OF YOU

In a rare public hearing with FCC Commissioners citizens spoke their minds All public testimony was recorded and officially submitted. However Fox News and the rest of mainstream media ignore the story because it reveals how Americans really think.

Free Press, Consumer's Union, Common Cause, United Church of Christ Office of Communications, Metropolitan Church Council, Ohio PIRG, and Ohio Citizen Action sponsored a town meeting on the future of media in Columbus, Ohio on March 7, 2007.

Three FCC commissioners, Democrats Jonathan Adelstein and Michael Copps and Republican Robert McDowel heard testimony from angry citizens who chided the Commission and challenged a national media policy that is bringing American democracy to an all-time low.

This public hearing was one of the public's few chances to speak out against Big Media. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is moving to lift the ban on corporations owning newspapers and TV stations in the same market.

Also under consideration includes the funding of public broadcasting, and if phone companies offering high-speed Internet will be able to exclude poor, rural areas from service.

Susan Eiserman, of southeast Ohio, said it’s exciting to be able to directly engage public officials, but she’s dismayed that, because of the current state of the media, it seems to be all or nothing.

"Unfortunately, when this doesn’t happen, the only way that public officials have to gauge what is going on in the community is through the media, and if the media has a particular perception that they are pushing or something they would just as soon not have public officials know about, it’s not going to make the front page of the newspaper and it’s not going to make the TV shows," Eiserman said. "Information is power, and if we allow power to be concentrated into a very few hands, I think we will rue the day when we allowed it."

So how many of you read the story in your local papers? None. Nor tv or radio or web... Only real coverage was local independent coverage.

A Google News search using the keywords "FCC Columbus Ohio" reveal a whopping 8 stories featuring the public hearing.

In comparison, the keywords "Anna Nicole Columbus Ohio" brings up 557 stories.
