For the majority in House District 2 we are appalled at how little Greg Walden is accessible to his constituency. "Where's Walden?" is more than a children's picture book game of hide and seek. It is a corporate politician's way of hiding from Oregonians who he ignores. Walden sneaks into the Rogue Valley and meets with the chamber of commerce crew, but he ignores the requests of ordinary working people. Workers were concerned in the spring of 2005 so went to Greg Walden's Medford Office and met with Walden's staff.

The national talk at the time was Bush's plan to privatize Social Security and workers were concerned. They wanted to know where Greg Walden stood on the issue. After giving the delegation a run-around Walden's staff told Southern Oregon workers that Greg Walden might be able to meet with the delegation in May. So folks waited through May but nothing developed from the Walden promise. Now 1.5 years later the workers' delegation is still waiting. Walden's Promise has turned into another Walden Lie. Vote for Voisin
16.10.2006 - 10:03
Last night's debate on Channel 12 was a rare opportunity. It may be the first time Walden's been forced to debate since taking office. Ordinarily he appears on our mainstream TV and runs the show. For example, immediately following the Forestry Subcommittee meeting in Medford last spring, a local TV anchorman handed Greg the microphone and let Greg give the report on the hearing which he had presided over. At that time, that station failed to interview the OSU graduate student who had written the controversial article in SCIENCE or to interview any of the experts who supported anti-salvage logging view.

media?
21.10.2006 - 14:55
i like to think of indymedia sites as reliable and worthy alternatives to corporate-sponsored mainstream media. it's disappointing to see it used as a forum for liberal jokes. yes, the system in which we live is ridicuous and the people who control it are assholes and often deserve to have their poor behavior exposed. that's one of the things that independent media can and should do. and yes, we are all frustrated and like to target bush and other conservatives. but it gets us nowhere to play games here.

people, including myself, may become frustrated with indymedia sites when they become flooded with irrelevant jokes and cease using it as a source of real, important news.

this is a great resource. let's use it for great things.

Mediacracy start with ME
21.10.2006 - 21:20
This country was built on a tradition of a strong, citizen-based media.
From the historic legacy of the colonial press and pre-revolutionary pamphleteers, a free and independent media stands as the guardian of liberty. It provides the sword by which the common man defends against tyranny. It is the vehicle for ordinary citizens to influence their world. It is the watchdog, keeping corruption and abuse of power in check; the muckraker, exposing injustice, challenging the status-quo; and the crusader, slaying the dragons that threaten our freedom.

As a nation, we identify free speech and a free press as our first right, guaranteed by law. In stark contrast, there are no laws requiring news media to tell the truth. Objectivity and neutrality are antiquated ideals, no longer observed and we should not feel bound by them. The new challenge is to be credible. Credibility counts more than the "professionals" codes of conduct.

Indymedia is NOT the MSM alternative, nor is it just another news brand, it is part of a global "ME"-dia revolution that profits in truth, vigilance and social responsibility. Audiences are not passive consumers but are active participants, demanding a say in what is covered. Indymedia is a powerful tool for communicating and coordinating action and to do great good. The challenge is to engage the reader. It is critical that we strive to be successful, credible citizen journalists and through community support indymedia will thrive.

Silly Picture

I am not a huge fan of Walden, but Voisin is too far left to ever challenge Walden. A silly picture doesn't do anything but trivialize the race even further.
