A crowd estimated between 400 and 500 stood strong in a march & rally in downtown Medford. After the opening rally at the gazebo in Alba demonstrators proceeded down Main Street first to Vogel Park. The march moved onto Central with banners held high in the air. The procession turned at 6th Street and then again onto Riverside to 10th around the Library and then down Central again back to Vogel Park.
Accompanying chants included
"Si Se Puede" (Yes We Can)
"El Pueblo Unido, Jamas Sera Vencido" (The People United, Will Never Be Defeated)
"Hoy Marchamos, Manana Votamos" (Today We March, Tommorow We Vote)

Pogo> Mail Tribune Fails, again--- 23.04.2006 - 18:15 When the Street March took off west on Main Street from Vogel Park back to Alba and on to the Justice Center it was strung along for many blocks and the very loud proud chanting could be heard for a very very long distance...all the way to the Medford Mail Tribune building! Not one drop of ink of coverage followed this large event from southern oregon's regional newspaper...the Medford Mail Tribune. For the thousands of MMT readers, this event never even happened. It is their right to lie and to not report the truth. In true orwellian hyperbole such is protected by freedom of speech. Bullshit, this is worse than screaming out "fire" in a crowded theater! This crowd waived Mexican Flags, this is AMERICA not Mexico. If you want to be an AMERICAN then learn our language, practice our culture, assimilate to AMERICA. If you want to have Spanish or something other than English as your language, disrespect "our" country, and break our laws, then go back to Mexico or what ever country you came from. This Country did not become the greatest nation on earth by assimilating to someone elses way of life. While I believe in tolerance, sanctioning disrespect and ignoring our laws is not tolerance it is unweaving the very Country that you all want to come to, you folks that support this type of behavior are missing the boat. Give the actual complaints some thought and explain to me why so many people want to come here only to make it like the country they left? The 'taking' begins . uh... I don't see any Mexican flags in the photos above... I wasn't there, and apparently neither was 'student'. I have heard from 3 eye witnesses that there were only American flags present. This is of course if you consider 'American' to mean USA (as if Canada was in Africa, but I digress). I have heard is there were only 'stars and stripes' - USA flags at this rally. I don't think speaking English makes one an 'American'. If I took 'student's' argument and applied it to him, I might have to insist he 'go back' to Europe or what ever place he (or his) came from. I'm no scientist, but a quick glance at a the people of Mexico and they look like aboriginal americans, not the European Spanish who's language they speak. The Norwegian immigrants of Minnesota look as out of place as a penguin in the desert. (Minnesota - American aboriginal name, not Norwegian). Before you insist the brown people 'go back to Mexico' you might think about sending the white people back home first. ( sing! "This land is our land, we stole it from the people who were here, we're gonna keep it, we don't care about what's fair..." don Juan Tao> Yes, yes, and yes, but I also digress 07.05.2006 - 14:52 If you actually read the post as I wrote it, I didn't single out any specific people, unless you don't want to assimilate to the American culture, you don't want to learn our language - as voted on by the people who founded this country, and if you want to break our laws. I will always believe that weakening our Nation just because it feels good is wrong. I don't believe that any legal immigrants, past or present should go back to thier root country, they are our Country and they are here legally, this is now thier home, but that would be America, not thier previous country. Besides, then it becomes an arguement of where the garden of Eden really was or if we should go back to eating bananas. I was at the rally, but not a part of this rally, and yes there were lots and lots of red white and blue, and yes there were other flags present also, not nearly as many as at other rallies, but the biggest problem is the inspiring reason for the rally. How many legal immigrants and born American people want to start allowing the very fabric that created this country to be erroded by false pretense? Maybe the general public should look at the real backers of this movement. Do you really think that the unions are backing this without expectation of something in return, if you were in a different circumstance this would be called prostitution. Will you now let the masses decide through protests when it is OK to break the law. Doing something just because it feels good, even when you don't know the facts or the real truth, is why our society has the problems with crime and welfare. How about we just let everyone decide which laws they want to obey and which ones they want to break. I'll tell you what, as soon as you are willing to give up what is legally yours to someone that wants to take it or occupy it illegaly, then I will have more empathy to this cause. But the fact is you weren't listening before, so why change? As for the idea of burning down the border and using the Mexican flag, well the poster either doesn't listen to the immigrants or all of you are ignoring the facts. Since your ears won't work, let's try the brain. The immigrants come to this country both legally and ilegally for what reason? Why can they make more money in the US? Is thier government lacking the resources, such as manpower? Are they lacking in natural resources? You want to burn down the border and become Mexico. Where will you migrate to then? France? Oh, that's right the country that you folks thought was so great for not supporting the invasion of Iraq sut down it's borders and learned how to "Just say no". But since that doesn't fit your scheme of things we better ignore that. Some how the reality or truth doesn't matter to you.
