Hanson's Death Raises Questions

Vegan1forpeace, 26.01.2006 11:48

Is Hanson's tragic death another death due to the use of taser on a drug-intoxicated person? A comparison between Hanson's tragic death and that of Waylon Andreason less than a year ago.

Several questions can be raised surrounding the tragic death of Nick Ryan Hanson.

Were the Ashland Police overly aggressive in using the taser on Hanson? Don't Ashland Police know that taser use on drug intoxicated people has led to a number of deaths? (See Amnesty International's webpage,  http://web.amnesty.org/library/index/engamr511392004.)

Can we expect an investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff's department to be impartial, when that sheriff's department has a reputation for favoring aggressive use of force by law enforcement personnel? Why does the Tidings sensationalize Hanson's death? Why does the Tidings seem to favor police attribution of his death to drugs? Why no questions relating taser use to other deaths?

Why did Hanson's tragic death get front page coverage when the questionable death of well-liked Waylon Andreason less than a year ago get buried inside? (See  http://www.rogueimc.org/en/2005/06/4799.shtml to remember some of the questions surrounding Andreason's death. Ashland Police raided his camp one night, arrested one of his friends, and then Andreason was found dead the next night.)

It is looking like certain populations are endangered by the Ashland Police and the Tidings and all the Bianca supporters are all too willing to look the other way. Is Bianca a moderating force or an excuse for not asking the difficult questions which would restrain unnecessary police violence in Ashland?

In response to the "finding" by the Jackson County medical examiner as reported by the no-hard-questions-asked Daily Tidings ( http://www.dailytidings.com/2006/0126/012606n2.shtml), find "Taser questioned in deaths across continent" at  http://www.rogueimc.org/en/2006/01/5948.shtml.
