What is the purpose of IMC?

Chane Sau, 29.09.2005 08:49

Should we only get one side?

It seems that there is an idea by some of the "left" on here that the IMC should only be used to promote the Liberal and sometimes Extreme Left ideas. The IMC seems to me to be a good place to voice and discuss both sides of the various issues concerning the local region for those on the outside to read and make a somewhat informed decision. The IMC is tied to the world through it's other sites and allows input from all, at least in the Rogue Valley site. This is a great opportunity for those who want to take a stand on either side to present thier arguments. The Question one must ask when reading some of the postings "Why would the people who say they are our Champions, be so against having ALL views presented?" If people would like to see a clearer side of the people involved in the various conflicts and/or supporting the various causes I would say this is the place and now is the time.........

CLEARLY written at the top of the home page can be found the mission statement & policy
 http://www.rogueimc.org/static/mission.shtml

IMC's are NOT for right wingers. You already have the mainstream media, bought and paid for. Read the Oregonian, Watch Fox news, Listen to Garth and Rosemary's hate radio... Please leave rogue indy, leave now!

right wing trolls be gone!!!

RIMC is:
29.09.2005 - 10:49

From the mission statement:

"The Independent Media Center (IMC) is an open community resource where everyone is free to be heard in the Rogue Valley, using a website as a focal point. The website functions on principles of open publishing, allowing anyone to publish articles and have a voice."

... and ...

"The IMC does not discriminate based on race, class, age or sexual orientation, we welcome participation from all individuals."

I don't see anything there that supports your notion that "right wing trolls" should not be allowed to post here. Nothing in that mission statement says that only extremist liberals with an anti-management agenda should be allowed to post.

That said, I've been censored on this website countless times. Recently, a post of mine was censored in which I referenced a Oregonian article on a survey in which Oregonians said that they support salvage logging. Now, I'm sure that RIMC staff will claim that they removed the post because it violated their policy of not allowing "verbatim posts of other media without added content" (although this wasn't the case); however, during the very same time period there were several 'anti-management' posts which were nothing but verbatim citations of articles from the Register Guard. If RIMC staff is only following their policy, why is it that none of these 'anti-management' posts were censored?

I have to admit that the Rogue IMC is not nearly as bad at violating their own mission statement and policies as the Portland IMC, which censors ALL posts that don't support an anti-management stance. Regardless, the Rogue IMC has a long way to go in allowing freedom of information in order to live up to its name.
