Definitely NOT an 8 footer
11.09.2005 - 14:44
6 foot diameter Big Pine
6 foot diameter Big Pine
Interesting camera angle that includes a nearby tree on the right hand side. Even if the hippie chick's arm is only one foot long, the tree is merely a 4 to 5 footer, at best. Remember, trees are measured at 4.5 feet up from the uphill side.

That girl is HUGE!!!
12.09.2005 - 00:17

Based on the ratio of the size of the girl to the size of the tree in the picture, and assuming that really is an 8 foot diameter tree, I calculate the height of that girl to be 6 feet, 2 inches. Almost unbelievable!

Also, it looks like the girl is standing slightly behind that tree. That would cause her to look even smaller in relation to the tree because of the perspective. With this in mind, I would estimate that she's nearly SIX AND A HALF FEET TALL!!!

yeah, okay, perhaps but still
13.09.2005 - 11:42
hey, okay, whatever, five feet, nine feet, okay, so they exaggerated a little bit.

you're folks lied even worse in Salem and UO and the court ;>

either way, you're still stealing from America

how does it feel to screw the people of New Orleans

find another way to make a living

your industry is dying

your jobs went to indonesia.

thank your politicians.
damn dirty ape>

Ape needs to think like man
13.09.2005 - 20:09
Now ape.... You aren't thinking, especially when it comes to New Orleans.. This was a natural catastrophe, at least in the beginning, That would mean that it was caused by Mother Nature. Now why would mother nature destroy so much and pick on the exact class of people that keep saying they are defending her? Because in reality she thinks it time to move on... sky rocketing lumber prices = Need for more trees. Do you realize how much timber companies will be able to pay for the new sales coming up? LOTS!!!! So let the lies continue, let you and your comrades take to the woods, the cost of dealing with you will be minimal compared to the profits as a result of what MOther Nature destroyed......PS From past experience don't mess with the bionic protestor, if the arms don't get you the smell will.

Just a minute

I lied to you once but what I really wanted to say was....and honest this time I am really telling the truth. No honest. No really. Scouts honer. These are really bad people they lie to us. They want to make profit. No really. Honest. Cross my heart. They weren't eight foot but gosh they were big. And gosh we don't need to tell the truth...do we?

Less Talk More Rock
14.09.2005 - 16:11
Yo timber pimps,

If you don't believe that there are eight foot diameter trees marked for logging at Home Page, why don't you get your boots dirty and go check out the units.

I've been there. There are 5 ,6, 7, and 8 foot trees in those stands.

Step away from the computer with your hands in the air...

PS. Why do you care if there's 8 footers or not? Isn't all old-growth "decadent" and in prompt need of conversion into a fiber farm anyway? Don't tell me that there are legacy trees that you think have more value standing?!?!?!

If we don't turn every acre of Southern Oregon (public and private) into a tree farm,
then we aren't being sustainable.

Yo John, lets go log the wilderness again, THAT was fun.

See you in the woods-

They own the trees you steal
15.09.2005 - 11:20
Well, Jay Dubya, it goes like this.

The hurricane victims own the trees you steal, be they outside the line or through the courts.

Whoops! We marked one outside the boundary & cut it down and sold it!

They tried to defy nature with technology (the levee the ACOE had to maintain for 200 yy) and look what they got:

We'll get it too if you don't stop stealing from the rest of us as well

Stop stealing!

Find another way to make a living!

first NAFTA put hundreds of you guys out of business (say it aint so) and the next thing to kill you is composite fiber

god knows if we start growing hemp again you'll have to actually go to skool and get a cubicle job! ;} cheers!

Uh, yeah.
15.09.2005 - 13:38

Don't worry guys, I believe you. Just because you've told blantant lies in the past, and been called out on them, doesn't meen you're not telling the truth now. Anyways, lying is justified just as long as your cause is rightious enough.

Hemp will create jobs but...........
18.09.2005 - 11:31
Hemp production would rob these fools of their jobs but don't worry, Mcdonalds is currently hiring. If that doesn't work out, Taco Bell holds potential employment opportunitys.

I'm definitely worried
18.09.2005 - 11:59
about the younger generation.

They seem to have little originality, weak credibility, low creativity and they'll do ANYTHING to save a tree, except take a science class.

There IS a happy medium but, neither side seems to want to go there. Looks like selfishness on both sides, to me. However, it looks like both sides will have to take whatever the Forest Service is giving, whether its Roadless issues, old growth, thinning or recreation fees. Monkeywrenching or random snipers ain't gonna settle anything. "Counterbalancing" only makes you look like an extremist, resulting in a negative for whatever cause you're fighting for.

These trivial fights pale in comparison to the 5 MILLION acres of impacted southern forests. Yes, I could be headed there this winter to see the devastation firsthand. It's really too bad that "crisis logging" has to take precedence over sane forest management.

In the words of Robert Klein, "It's just Mother Nature's way of saying 'BOOGA, BOOGA!' "

It's Not The Size Of The Ship
18.09.2005 - 18:42
Remember that one, boys: It's not the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean.
Remember when you heard it, boys, how you knew deep inside the girls were just saying it to make you feel better in the unfortunate event your John Thomas just didn't measure up? And the broiling indignity, the hidden shame, the myriad ways you over-compensated, while deep down you protested against the injustice of it all.
Remember?
How you knew you were right. How you knew the society and its expectations were so fucking twisted and misguided. How you knew it was so WRONG to judge the worth of a man by the size of his wee-wee.
But we cut you down anyways, didn't we boys? All of us, giggling in the bathroom, sharing the truth about your inches. Deciding who to fuck and who to pass by.
So, now you think you'll get your revenge, boys, on the trees in the forest who grew longer and thicker and stiffer than you. And you'll cover it up with statistics, and photographs, with graphs and incontrovertible evidence that the tree you are ready to dismember is only so many feet in diameter. You are following the rules. You have the right.
Just like we did, giggling in the bathroom about who to fuck and who to pass by.

Some of your posts have reached a level of immaturity and rediculousness that I don't even need to respond. Your posts speak for themselves.

W/r/t your comment about immaturity and rideculousness (sic):

"Unimpressed" makes a point that I don't think you have ears to hear. You pride yourself on your graphs and your facts, and that's good. That's necessary. But what you forget is that this is an emotional argument. People have attachments to trees and wilderness. Eight feet, six feet? You're hung up on the exact number.

She's not being immature or ridiculous. She's making a comment about a certain kind male mentality. You have all the little facts, but miss the bigger picture.

In the end, she's the one with the 8 ft diameter. Yours is a bit less.

Yah, exactly ...
19.09.2005 - 12:05

Fact or fiction ... truth or lies ... sensationalism or moderation. Obviously it DOES't really make a difference to you either way, does it? Who cares if you're a liar, as long as you're an emotional liar. Right?

Moon Muffin>

Mark it in your datebook!
19.09.2005 - 13:50
the post here have reached an all time low point for bigotry and sexism. The anti forestry bunch finds no level to low to stoop to. I can listen to anti-forestry comments. I can listen to lies. I have a real problem with bigotry. I have a real problem with hetro/homo phobia and with sexism in general. You are one sick puppy.

Emotional Outbursts/Extremism
19.09.2005 - 15:27
Moon Muffin and Curious,

On the one hand, you portray yourself as the voice of moderation. But when it suits you, you jump to extremes and emotional outbursts.

Sexism? Homo- hetrophobia? Pretty extreme. Pretty shrill of you to make these claims.

Logging is a white male-dominated field. The mentality is white male. Groups of people have characteristics. Noting these differences is not sexism or bigotry.

Sexism and bigotry imply rigid thought patterns and faux boundaries based on race and gender. They imply discrimination.

Making an observation about a group of people, even one somewhat unflattering, is an observation.

Extrapolating from a false worldview about a group of people, that's bigotry.

Have you ever noticed that men own more power tools than women? According to your logic, if you have, you're sexist or a bigot.

My point stand: Loggers are not entitled to public lands. They seem to think they are.

All jabs and barbs aside, can you tell me why?

Silent Type>

I find
19.09.2005 - 17:31
your explanation lacking logic and insulting. Your sexual and racial generalizations (stereotypes) are pointless, bigoted, sexist, and have no place in the discussion. If you cannot understand this simple point, I repeat, you have serious problems.

Outrage and English Class
20.09.2005 - 09:55
It occurs to me that you probably don't understand what "Unimpressed" wrote.

She's saying that in the same way that it's wrong to judge a man simply by the size of his member, it's wrong to judge the value of a forest by the diameter of it's tree.

Everyone is so caught up on the exact diameter. I don't think she cares that much whether the tree is an eighter or not.

Your outrage seems a bit misplaced. Dimes to dollars you weren't an A student. Were you not paying attention in English class?

Silent Type>

It's Wrong to Lie
20.09.2005 - 10:31

So it's a big deal that there's 8-foot trees out there, untill someone points out that you're lying and there aren't really 8-foot trees out there, and then all of a sudden it's not a big deal and it doesn't really matter how big the trees are?

5 foot trees are quite common in the Siskiyous. I've NEVER seen an 8 foot tree in the Siskiyous. There's a big difference.

Anyways, the point is that YOU LIED.

AKA Figurative Language
20.09.2005 - 18:39
My post includes what is called a metaphor. Remember those? Remember 6th grade, or did you not make it that far? It's called a metaphor. That means it's not to be taken literally. Metaphor. Literal. Figurative. I promise these terms are all spelled correctly. You can even look them up in one of those things we call a dictionary.
You didn't like my post, did you? You felt offended, didn't you? My, my. Such an emotional response I wouldn't expect from those as purportedly logic-bound as yourselves.

You are fighting the wrong foe. You are corporate stooges. You are getting screwed by the boss while making him rich. You can't, dare I say it, see the forest for the trees, no pun intended.
By the by, you should have learned about those, too. Puns. That lesson happened around the same time you should have learned how to spell "ridiculous."

Unimpressed>

The Art of War
20.09.2005 - 20:28

OK, so apparently telling lies to promote your agenda didn't work out to well. So now you've resorted to attacking the gender, race, penis size, spelling, age and livelihood of those who disagree with you. Good job guys. Keep it up, so that everyone who happens to come accross this site will see what an immature and mean-spirited bunch you anti-management types are.

Moon Muffin>

Here's a game for you
21.09.2005 - 14:07
See if you can find a metaphor, a semile, an anology, an inference, stupidity, racism/sexism, or a statement of fact.

Remember...two may apply or maybe none.

1)"Verbose asshole"
2 "You are to sphincters what sirens are to cop cars."
3)"Your breath stinks, your message stinks, you are an asshole."
4)"You are a (fill in the blanks...black, white, gay, straight, Jewish, Christian, male, female) you are (fill in the blank...cheap, unable to swim, compensating for your small penis, envious of same, anti-Sematic, not able to be an engineer, poor athlete, good athlete) and I say this as an observation, not in a racist or sexist manner."
5)Racism/sexism are not jabs or barbs, they have no place in this disscussion.
6)You are an (fill in the blank).

Now wasn't that fun?

Get back to the facts., they really do matter
29.09.2005 - 08:33
the problem with the above posts are to numerous to list...but the facts are the facts.....There isn't an 8' tree marked to be cut, that is why there is no picture... The loggers aren't getting the trees, they are processing a renewable natural resource for the rest of us to use, including most of the wackos on this site.....the Public Forests ARE for all of us, not just a few preservationists who mis-lead and lie to the rest of us and especially to the unsuspecting who actually think that what the wackos type on here is true, and the vast majority of us would like to live in houses and understand that alternative wood sources don't work well, are not practical in the real world, are definitely not economical, (anyone know why they require Doug Fir plywood for roofs in Florida?) and the forests will continue to grow and die even if we don't cut them. Responsible use is not the same as NO CUT....
