Programming Lineup 01.05.2005 - 12:49 The signal is strong and can be heard anywhere in Ashland. Wow! What a weekend! An amazingly successful test for KSKQ! Thanks to everyone who made it happen--the tech crew had the site up and running a full day early. Vern set up a mobile broadcast studio. Mike and John F and Vern had enough equipment to run a much bigger studio. We would've been happy with something simple. Not this crew! We got the full deal, with multiple CD decks, tape decks, laptop interface, mixer and signal compressor, and...and... And everything worked great! Thanks to Art T, who covered the valley with Connie for the signal, logging locations and signal strengths. Even with about 55 watts of power (not the full 100 we're allowed), we broadcast to Central Point! The site is awesome. Line of site to what seemed like the whole Rogue Valley. They got our signal on Dead Indian Memorial Road! It was clear all over Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford, which we could see below us. Thanks to the gracious property owners and neighbors who supported our test and made it all possible. Thanks to John K, who brought his transmitter from up north, and on the air gave us enough credits from Pacific Power to offset all our electricity usage with credits for solar and wind and biomass energy. Even our test broadcast was based on alternative energy! Thanks to Venita and all the listeners who called in signal strengths. It never got boring to hear how clear our makeshift antenna and mobile studio were broadcasting! Sean and Terry and Jessica were dancing all over that equipment on Saturday--there wasn't anything they couldn't do. Connie brought a turntable and Terry set that up too. They played vinyl albums, casette tapes, CDs, computer files, MP3s, you name it, it clicked! Sean contributed his cell number and we had live call-ins. Jessica did a show from Lithia Park. Sean and Terry kept the show on the air until after 2am. The crew cross-trained, doing cross-fades, separate CD previews, several methods to monitor sound, voiceovers, you name it. Lots of different type of music and shows, with even more coming. Jason and his daughter played 6 taped interviews with 6 school board candidates--how's that for timely? What other radio station have you heard that on? Jason's young daughter was delightful and flawless with the station IDs, "KSKQ, Low Power FM, 94.9 Ashland". Jason even had a broadcast of the Earth Day children's drumming performance, which is worth hearing again and again. Thanks to Peace House, and Amy Goodman's promo for KSKQ, and Ashland Food Coop for contributions. Thanks to Mayor Morrison and City Councilors for interviews and grateful words for KSKQ, and their official resolution last week supporting independent media in Ashland. Thanks to Tom, who kept our Sunday afternoon CD trays turning. Thanks to Wendell and Alethia and all the folks who made sampler shows and promos. Thanks to Suzia, with a heart of gold and a sparkling smile you can hear on the radio with several radio pieces and interviews. Thanks to Connie for the pizza and spaghetti and all the food that kept the crews humming. Connie and Don did several broadcasts about MCA, and the KSKQ dream, with Don ending our 2-day broadcast with a financial appeal to keep us on the air. We were scheduled to stop at 6pm, and were having so much fun, we kept broadcasting until 7pm. Then after our last song, "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight", Mike signed us off with a hilarious, sobbing appeal to "BRING US BACK!" Even after we signed off, the teamwork continued, and we had the entire site disassembled, cable-wrapped, and scrubbed in 30 minutes. The energy was so positive we continued talking, planning, joking, laughing, dreaming. Great team, great energy, great site, great volunteers, and a great weekend. The universe is smiling on KSKQ! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
