the Second Coming of Dennis J Kucinich!!!
John Granacki, 02.04.2005 08:48
Howdy Peace Fans,
I know I must've mumbled something once or twice about it seeming unlikely that Dennis Kucinich would run for President again in 2008 (and that maybe I'd put my energy behind the superior Clinton?) but Spring is finally here, and the situation may not be so desperate as I had thought.
First of all, I've got my garden rowed, howed, rototilled and rehowed (in a slightly different order, but alas, one which doesn't roll quite so eloquently off the tongue...) and all ready to plant, but then I look out in the woods and see that nature is way ahead of me! There are seven (7!) wild flowers I can already see blooming out my living room window, whereas I just barely got my onion starts in the ground last week!
But then again, maybe it all evens out in the long run; half of next year's firewood is already cut, and I notice the birds have barely begun the nesting season, which I've been enjoying all winter long! In any case, Kucinich's 2nd coming has come right on cue, as my apparently dead link to the personage and organization of the ever-so-presidential Congressman from Ohio seems to have been revitalized ...or should I say "arisen?" Yes indeed, I recieved this e-mail on Easter Sunday! Pretty cool, huh?
So Faithful, despair not, and yet Skeptics, take note: I don't know if we can ever get him elected but if Kucinich runs I'll vote for him every time, because the "lesser of two evils" argument is a non-factor whenever a single non-evil candidate files for the job. In the meantime, Dennis' focus seems to be once again where mine (and maybe yours?) ought to be: staying active and informed, keeping in touch with others who are active and informed, and doing what can be done to inform (and activate?) more others. Progress is slow and wrought with peril, but we shall overcome.
Anyhow, here's what Dennis has to say:

Subject: Upcoming Kucinich.us website relaunch
Dear John,
Next week, on Tuesday, April 5, I will relaunch
http://www.kucinich.us, the Web site originally used for my 2004 Presidential campaign. Dedicated to empowering activists nationwide, Kucinich.us will be a platform for educating and organizing around the issues that brought millions of people together to create a politics with heart and intelligence, celebrating our highest capabilities and enabling the triumph of hope over fear.
The theme of the new Kucinich.us will be "Insight and Action." To aid in the education and empowerment of activists everywhere, I will share my insights on a range of critical issues. I'll give calls to specific action and provide specific tools to help engage supporters in working to change the world, starting in your own communities.
In a new feature, Report from Washington, I will provide my inside view of late-breaking events from right inside the Capitol. Updated frequently, even several times a day if issues warrant, this report will be your link to what's happening, as it happens.
In a new streaming video presentation, I challenge the Administration's plan for privatization of Social Security. This presentation also will be available for purchase on disk and tape, and in a downloadable slide show, suitable for use in grassroots organizing. Those who are prepared to take organizing to a new level and wish to hold Town Hall meetings in their communities will be able to sign up through the website to arrange to have me call in to answer questions after the presentation of this video.
This is just the beginning of a new series of Town Hall videos, starting with Social Security and extending to a range of other critical topics. With these insights and tools, you'll be empowered to discuss the issues confidently, to organize, and to carry the message to others.
Spring is here. We're back. Together, we'll create a new beginning.
Sincerely,
Dennis Kucinich
Paid for by the Re-Elect Congressman Kucinich Committee

Amy & Randi For Pres & V-Pres 02.04.2005 - 14:02
Amy Goodman for President We should start a Nationwide campaign for Amy Goodman/Randi Rhodes for "President,Vice-President for 2008" !! It would be first time in USA history of women as Pres & Vice-Pres. The bored corporate media wants C.Rice vs H.Clinton to run for Pres in 2008. I say let's start a natiowide campaign for Amy/Randi in 2008. They would immediately stop all wars in the World, have Kucinich as "Department of Peace",Nader as "Department of Commerce" Let's start those bumber stickers. AZ IMC> getting back to the topic 03.04.2005 - 00:05 It could be an oversight but I don't think so. Nowhere does Kucinich say he will listen to us. He says numerous times that he will tell us what to believe and what to do. We are limited "to carry the message to others", and presumably to listen while he does all that talking. It does not matter, by the way, how much worse you may claim other candidates might be. We don't need Kucinich to be 'not as bad as'. We need him to be a really good candidate. That means, among other things, he must be eager to hear the concerns and proposals of his constituents. All the time. Not only when somebody reminds him. bill> Democrat Apologist 04.04.2005 - 07:41 Kucinich was a huge disappointment in 2004. Not because he had all the charisma of a bowl of cold oatmeal, but because in the end he turned out to just be an apologist for a Dem party which is pro-war, pro-corporate. Kucinich had enough of a following that he could have, in the primary, wrung some concessions out of Kerry (like not supporting the Iraq occupation) under threat of splitting and offering a third party candidacy. He did not. What he did do is split the activist community, distract us from productive direct action and sucker many into staying within the confines of a pro-war corporate party. Here's hoping that in 2008, we reject the two-headed monster that is the republicratic one-party system. Ethelbert> Way to Hyper-Critical 04.04.2005 - 12:03 I beleive the two previous publishers are being Hyper Critical. Which tends to happen with many of us who spend so many hours thinking of the state of the world and what are ideologies are. Kucinich was a great canidate. He was a Democrat, but he was for a reason. To try and change the only party, that has a chance of winning, from the inside. I'm an ararchist so I don't think he's going to save us from ourselves, but all tactics and avenues of change should be used. If Kucinich isn't a good enough, or progessive enough canidate for you, then you will never find one. By the way, you have to really analyze the Kucinich e-mail to find something wrong and to say he is not going to listen to us is just bull. When he came to my town which is very rural, half the time he was here he listened to people's concerns. He stayed with folks right in town and had potluck with all the community members invited. Say what you will but I will vote for Kucinich everytime. ANT> You're both right 07.04.2005 - 11:01 Kucinich is a cool person. He does listen. He does care about progressive causes. He probably thinks he's doing the 'right' thing working within the system but I say this is where he's wrong. He is a defacto appologist for the pro-war, pro-corporate and totally despicable Democratic politicians. He enables them to continue their sharade of being an 'opposition' party. The Democratic party is worthless and should be given zero support or respect. They effectively serve to mute the opposition. They pretend to represent the poor and working class people. It is all bullshit. They are liars and cheats. It is a stain against Kucinich to be associated with these scumbags. They fooled me into voting for Kerry - first time I voted Democratic since 1976. It was a mistake to do this and I was wrong. Never again. I supported Kucinich, went to quite a number of his rallies, wrote to his campaign and tabled for his cause. I'll vote for him again (he will NEVER get past the primaries) but let's not fool ourselves into thinking we will find any solution in the Democractic party or that a person like Kucinich (or Amy for that matter) will ever be allowed to take any sort of power in the policial system. WE are the power. No politician will ever rescue us from the machine. They ARE the machine. Jon> |
