Benton County resident Blair Bobier, the Media Director for the Green Party's 2004 presidential campaign and an expert in electoral reform who spent several weeks in Ohio working on the presidential recount came to Southern Oregon on 2/11/05 and presented a startling account of what went wrong in Ohio and how we can fix our dysfunctional election system. Blair delivered his public speech at 7 p.m. in the basement Arena in the Stevenson Union, on the Southern Oregon University campus.

Prior to Blair Bobier's presentation Rogue IMC volunteers were able to conduct a 16 minute video interview which you can see here. It is delivered in 3 parts in Quicktime Video and we ask you to take a look now

At the Southern Oregon University presentation Bobier discussed the Green Party's requests for recounts in Ohio and New Mexico, the related pending lawsuits, the historic challenge to Ohio's Electoral College votes and the New Voting Rights Movement which has emerged in the aftermath of the second flawed presidential election in a row.

"The bad news is that our democracy is in terrible shape. The good news is that people are finally starting to pay attention and we have an opportunity to create the kind of first-class democracy that this country really deserves," said Bobier.

Bobier has a long history of involvement with electoral issues. A founder of the Pacific Green Party, he was the party's first gubernatorial candidate in 1998. Bobier was also a consultant for the Center for Voting & Democracy and is a contributing author of Counting Votes: Lessons from the 2000 Presidential Election in Florida (University Press of Florida).

Bobier remains available to discuss election reform and the Green Party's pending lawsuits in New Mexico and Ohio with members of the press. He can be reached at 541.929.5755.
