J20 Call to Action!

S. D. Ryan, 25.12.2004 22:54

Planning for the J20 protest has begun

Planning for the January 20 demonstration against the inauguration of resident george w. bush is under way. Twenty-five activists from around Southern Oregon gathered at the Ashland public library Dec. 15 to draw up a plan of action for a march and rally to coincide with other actions around America and the world. Those Opposed to the second bush regime will convene at 11 am Thursday J20 in Hawthorn Park adjacent to the Medford Center on E. Jackson st. and march to Vogel Park for a rally at noon.

We stand up united on J20
We stand up united on J20

Activists representing the peace movement, organized labor, environmentalism, students, queer and reproductive rights, and civil liberties for example signed on to committees to focus on specific aspects of what proves to be a resounding rejection of the second stolen dubya selection. A smaller group has been meeting since November to raise the call to action, and the committees will carry on that work across the regional village toward a whole day of activities centered around the general rally at noon. There will be another organizational meeting wednesday, january 5 from 6 - 8 pm at Peace House (upstairs), 543 S. Mountain Ave. in Ashland.

The theme for the lunch-hour demonstration will be a funeral for the rights and potential that have been lost to the world by the return of dumbya for a second dictatorship. The numerous activist groups already on board will stage various demonstrations including but not limited to street theater, music, rush-hour "Burma-Shave" roadside messages, and a general student and worker walk-out.

But in the best New-Orleans-style sendoff tradition, however, we will remember that there will be a day without the dub, no matter how far off that day may seem now: Protestors are encouraged to wear bright colors beneath their mourning garb, which will be discarded at the culmination of the rally as a demonstration that hope cannot be smothered if we are willing to stand up against the apartheid of oppression by an elite unelected minority.

Come down and show the world at large that the bush does NOT have a mandate to cut services to the weakest among us racking up record defecits financing imerialism and globalization so his parasite cronies can bleed the marginalized to death. The true American is not one who does what she is told because someone in an appointed office said so as the conservatives would have us believe, but the one who stands up against that oppression of the mind and spirit. Let's rock Medford this J20 and show the the world that the rest of us would sign Texas over to Mexico in a heartbeat if they'd only take it off our hands.

Thanks! This is a great update on what's going on to prepare for the J20 demonstration.
I'd also like to add that we are doing poster and banner making on the two weekends before.. Jan 8-9 and Jan 15-16 at the Peace House. There will be more information about specific times soon.
The day before, jan. 19 is the Roe v. Wade Anniversary celebration at the SOU campus, so please attend and pass out flyers about J20 activities!

Ribbons
16.12.2004 - 13:41
United For Peace and Justice encourages everyone to wear a white ribbon on January 20, no matter where you are or what you are doing. In many cultures, white is the traditional color of mourning. We will wear white to honor the tens of thousands of civilians and more than 1200 U.S. servicepeople who have died in Iraq. We also honor all of the people in our own communities and around the world who have died as a result of the Bush administration's policies.  http://unitedforpeace.org/

Call in Sick or Take a Personal Day
29.12.2004 - 13:35
In addition to your own locale, help spread the word about J20 elsewhere.
Call radio talk shows and write letters to newspapers.
Forward email notices everywhere so that the mainstream media will have a harder time manipulating the protest message.

Counter Inaugural Ball
30.12.2004 - 15:54
The evening of January 20th we will be hosting a Counter Inaugural Ball at the Mobius (281 4th St. Ashland) in cooperation with the Peace House. Music will be provided by Jah Firm Sound System and Ken Bekker.

Dancing is a form of protest; by dancing we shine brighter and illuminate that which is most sacred within us all, the spirit, and by doing that we heal the world around us. So come dance!
