Judge fines Portland Police for excess "less lethal" force: Repercussions point straight to Jacksonvill
Hey--Check out the front page of the Oregonian: Portland police used excessive force shooting protestors at close range and using gas "flagrantly violating peaceful demonstrators' First Amendment rights." While the city dismisses the monetary award as insignificant, the ruling sends a clear message that Oregon's taxpayers' money will be paid to the victims of those attacked by the people Oregonians spend tax money to "protect." The implications for Jacksonville are clear, as the violence seems even less provoked. Residents involved in the Jacksonville Cop Riot of 2004 should file a class action lawsuit using Portland as a precedent. I was standing next to a toddler in her mother's arms when I inhaled pepper dust; so did they. Lets make it inconvenient for them to do it again. That's right, the state sent your property tax money to the victims, after they took your money to pay the people who beat them up. Close another elementary school so we can truck sadists around the state and beat up the kids who should be in class? Maybe we shouldn't have the shortest school year in the nation. Act now and stop the violence we pay for with our tax dollars.
