Cascadia , 29.01.2004 00:01
this is forwarded, but rightfully so, for us here in southern cascadia.
please pay attention. the time is now. right now.
Take a few minutes out of your day on Thursday to call in/fax your opposition to the largest proposed timber sale in US history, the Biscuit Burn area in the wild Siskiyous of Cascadia.
Hey friends of the Wild Siskiyou,
Do yourself and the forests a favor tomorrow. Take a few minutes to ramp up the pressure now that the Biscuit comment deadline is over. Below are some real simple steps you can take. This battle is, in part, gunna be won in the public opinion arena. Do you have an opinion about the largest timber sale in history? Come by the office for coffee and donuts or take a few minutes from home/work and express YOURSELF! Please forward this to other lists/friends, etc...
* Coffee and Donuts Call/Fax-in This Thursday about Biscuit Proposal
The Cascadia Wildlands Project, Siskiyou Project and other troublemakers are coordinating a joint call/fax-in this Thursday, January 29 from 10-2 pm. We will be utilizing the fax machines and telephone lines in the CWP office (454 Willamette #207, Eugene) targeting Senators Wyden and Smith as well as Rep. DeFazio. Putting pressure on these Congresscritters will be instrumental in halting this egregious project (remember: it is the largest proposed timber sale in history). We will have hot coffee, donuts galore and background info about the project. Come utilize our office. If you can't make it and are stuck at work, in traffic or are just a lazy couch potato at home, I've got contact info below as well as background so you can call/fax from home. Just do it!
We got some juicy info that Peter DeFazio will be at his Eugene office on Thursday. Be certain to call, fax and even stop in there and let him know your thoughts about the Biscuit clearcutting proposal in the Siskiyou Wild Rivers Area.
Some talking points/background on the Biscuit proposal:
--The preferred alternative would clearcut 30,000 acres of forest or 518 million board feet (enough to fill log trucks lined up from San Diego to the Canadan border).
--We support projects based on science, not what campaign contributions can buy
--the timber industry put over $1 million in Bush's pocket during the last election. This proposal is payback.
--No logging in Roadless Areas, Late Successional Reserves (LSRs) or on steep slopes (the area is too fragile)
--clearcutting the Siskiyou wild Rivers Area will harm the economic stability of the region
--The forests of the Klamath/Siskiyou have evolved with fire disturbances for hundreds of years
